From folder @ GA:

One of our guys got in on a focus group about Xbox 360 in London last night, didn't sign the NDA.
The 360 name would appear to be 100% finalised.
Here are the proposed marketing lead taglines. Set faces to stun.

Xbox 360: Amplify Yourself!
Xbox 360: You're Next!
Xbox 360: Shine!

And check this:

Xbox Live: Menage a Billions!

I'll be running the whole story later on the site but thought you guys would appreciate the heads up.

Anyone else can confirm that there was a focus group meeting in London?

Oh and: Xbox 360: You're Next!

You're not serious, those can't be seriously considered as taglines for xbox360 :?

xbox360: Shine! ...... Shiny Shine!!!!???

Tag lines are only of use if they are used in the context of the marketing material. Yes as used above they do look weird but you really need to see the whole picture before you can really judge them. As for the name Xbox360 its fine, people really go overboard and I'm sure many focus groups were tested prior to name being chosen.

Focus group testing was also used when they designed the xbox casing.

I really don't quite believe in using focus groups when making marketing and image decisions, better leave them to those who know what they're doing, i.e. advertising agencies and professional designers.

Well, yes of course, what I meant is that the input from focus groups can often be misleading, imo.

Think about it, if MS took 12-18 year old boys as their focus groups, I'm sure they "dig" slogans like "pimp up your ride", "You're Punkd'" and such... and other tacky things.
They might be the group xbox360 is targeted, but it also narrows it so that the image might not be very appealing to above 20 year olds.

It is true to certain extent that a slogan needs the whole campaign to be able to judge it, but those slogans... well as they are, they do lack some sublety which I prefer.
And I do think a slogan should also work without a picture or other, just as a slogan.
They sound like they might work once, when seen with a picture, but that the "wit" would soon wear off.
But maybe, or likely, they are just parts of the marketing campaign and will appear in one of the many one sheet adverts, in which case it's ok. But as a continuing, lasting slogan for the xbox360 they lack.

Xbox360 is really lame.
But hey, Nintendo got away with Nintendo64...
And when you sit down and pick up the controller and start playing i doubt you will even care, and people will just call it xbox.

xbox "3-sixty" might sound cool in english, but I have my doubts how it fairs in other regions that don't speak english (and what it will do to their market campain)...

In their defense, N64 kinda made sense...... u know, 64-bit, marketed as being better than the 32-bit PS1 and Saturn... that kinda thing...
360 is just a stupid number. Revolution? 360 degrees? it's not connected to anything inside the Xbox2 unless they're thinking about something that turns in every direction at 360 degrees, and even then.. lame name.

Nothing, absolutely nothing, will compete with Sony's marketting campaign...

PlayStation 3!

Actualy:

PlayStation 3

As the important thing for the mass is that it is a PlayStation and not a SomethingelseBox.
