Witcher 2

I just downloaded all the DLC like the suits and stuff from the witcher site and applied it to my patched game. Looks like it went off without a hitch. I have yet to fire up the game though. But at least it looked like the 1.1 patch and the DLCs installed without a hitch.

I was about to download the patch manually but was hesitant because there's no mention of Steam in the official paga. At that moment I noticed the game updating in Steam but it was taking far longer that it would 14MB.

So 9 gigs you say? for a patch that's borderline pushing it

Any release notes to check exactly what was and what wasn't patched? Other than the 16:9 AR and laggy menu I haven't found any serious bug. Is there any part of gameplay that was known to be broken? like the rogue critical in DA:O.

Apparently Steam can only replace files, whereas the other installers can just patch the data inside the file. So Steam has to replace a 9 gig file, GOG just patches 9 megs of data inside that file.

Interesting, that's a huge drawback on the part of Steam for people with low bandwidth. Any change at all, lets say 1 single bit (unrealistic I know), in a gigabyte sized file would mean downloading the whole thing again. It doesn't affect me much but I could undestand a facepalm from some people when learning this.

It was nice of the devs to remove DRM in the non-GOG versions (GOG already had no DRM) with this patch. Obviously Steam has that sort of thing built in differently, but after launch day CPR didn't want to give customers a worse, more inconvenient experience, so they took out the Securerom DRM from the other versions. Some people did report massive differences (30 percent) in framerate going from the Securerom to the GOG executables, and loading times were massively quicker.

Discussing the removal of DRM on the game's blog CD Projekt development director Adam Badowski said:

"Our goal is to make our fans and customers happy and to reward them for buying our game and DRM schemes does not support our philosophy as they might create obstacles for users of legally bought copies.

"Our approach to countering piracy is to incorporate superior value in the legal version. This means it has to be superior in every respect: less troublesome to use and install, with full support, and with access to additional content and services. So, we felt keeping the DRM would mainly hurt our legitimate users.

"This is completely in line with what we said before the release of The Witcher 2. We felt DRM was necessary to prevent the game being pirated and leaked before release. This purpose has been served, so we are pleased to let our users enjoy the full freedom of game usage they deserve."

Well done CPR!

Well DRM shouldn't have been there in the first place (and it wasn't on their own GoG release), especially when you see the huge impact it has on loading times and in-game performance for some people. At least they've finally got a clue that you can't make your product worse and more inconvenient than pirate copies, and then expect people to not to use pirate versions.

It was even more nonsensical when you had genuine customers on the official forums asking if it was okay for them to use GoG/pirate exes because of poor performance with DRM, and the devs agreed.

Witcher 1 is still on my Steam queue to play but I'm buying Witcher 2 to support these guys.

Hey guys, so the patch apparently brings the Troll Trouble DLC with it...is that a correct statement? Where do you see that in the game? Is it in the Main Menu -> Extras or something?

It's in-game. NPCs get updated dialog. Pre-patch it showed up from the Launcher as well, but you don't have to do anything separate to run it.

Outside of pub, on quest board :)

I've got it!

Beat it this morning, though it took me 3 tries to finish off that beastie on the tower's roof. Followed it up with a very easy session of making Letho my bitch.

Only nailed two women throughout the game, Triss and the elf prostitute who sets up shop in Vergen. Very disappointing that I couldn't join in Phillippa's spanking session for a quick 3-some. :/

Left Witcher 2 to update overnight, now I wanna play it and it keeps saying 'This game is currently unavailable. Please try again at another time.'

Hubba?

Sorry for a little OT here, but I was playing the Witcher 1 demo and its amazing :D ! Right now I just out drunk a guy and am running/swaying in the woods trying to find the crypt  ! Its brilliant ! If only I can find a disc version in a nearby store, I don't want to go on another downloading spree of 9 gbs !

The game is beautiful, btw,(and I ma getting 200fps in indoors !) :
