Wii Problem or RE4 problem?

This is really annoying. I just got to chapter 5-3 of RE4 on the Wii, and I'm trying to beat the interactive custscene, but the game keeps screwing up. First the audio will drop and then the game will lock up and I'll get an error screen that says to eject the disc and power off the unit. I've tried a number of times, but it always screws up. Has anyone had a problem like this with the Wii? The disc looks perfectly clean, and there isn't a scratch on it. All of my game discs look brand new. I've been playing heavily for the last couple weeks and haven't had a problem. I'm going to start playing Metroid Prime, to see if I have similar problems.

Didn't see that issue, and I played through the game 3 times. I don't recall ever seeing anyone talk about such a problem either, in any RE4 Wii discussion.

So either your Wii is having problems (crapping out, or have latest firmware?), or you have a disc with a bad part that's not visible.

I guess it's a bad disc. I just played some Metroid and didn't have any problems. I've never bought a defective disc before. Sucks that the bad part is right at the end of the game. Hopefully I'll be able to get another copy without having to pay for it.

Try renting another copy or two of RE4 (if you can). There you can see which has the problem. :smile:
If it doesn't have any scratches try to see if label itself has any scratches (if you haven't)

Sounds like a bad Wii. Contact Nintendo and see what the process is for having your system serviced.

I think it may have been overheating? Is that possible with this thing? I had it in a fairly tight space, and after moving it out, I was able to play through to the end of Resident Evil. Think I should send it out anyway, just in case? Right now it should still be under some kind of warranty, I think.

Anything can overheat. :)

Try leaving it out in the open and playing, as you've done. If you don't get those errors anymore, then most likely it was overheating.

That said, if your system's warranty is coming up anytime soon (say within the next 30 days), I'd send it out just to be on the safe side. If not, do this test and you should be good.

What happens if your replacement Wii also overheats?

IOW the problem is not the Wii...

What is IOW?

I just had the Wii in a somewhat tight space. I moved it out and haven't any problems since. Guess I just underestimated how hot this thing would get.

Edit:

I'm also just guessing that it was overheating. It didn't seem to be getting that hot, but I moved it out of that space, and for now the problem has gone away. Could just be a coincidence and the problem might start showing up again.

IOW= In other words

The Wii can get pretty hot especially if it sits horizontally you will notice from just Connect24 (though thats due to the fan not running while off).
