Also she says she has been there for many years and internal excitement in Nintendo is most for Wii than GameCube and N64.

What is her position in the company that she would know this information?

Just wondering, who is the original poster that he would be in a position to talk to a NOA employee?

May 25 (Bloomberg) -- Nintendo Co., the world's biggest maker of handheld video-game players, said profit will fall 34 percent this fiscal year as a stronger yen cuts the value of overseas assets and curbs gains from the sale of new consoles.

...

The player won't cost more than 25,000 yen, said Yoshihiro Mori, Nintendo's senior managing director, at a news conference in Osaka. The company expects to ship 6 million Wii consoles this fiscal year, and about 17 million software games for the device.

Well, we've been hearing the $200-$250 price point since even before E3, if I remember correctly. Though, it was an analyst, I believe.

Looks like I got to hunt down all of one's yen!

Currently 25,000 Yen = $221.63 USD. Seeing as most Nintendo consoles have shipped at $199 it is appearing more and more likely Wii will as well.

I wonder why only 6M if they really think that both gamers and no gamers will like then they would think it should sell more than PS3 (that only some gamers will buy)?

About the price it as expected IMO, still for 200$ I expect some good juice in it.

Well they might not be able to produce anymore than 6 million. And also A/V people will also want to buy the PS3 too. And they are not really gamers either per say.

If it is low end HW shouldnt they be able to produce much more than Sony?

I mean each of the components should be much easier to produce, unless the sensor bar/remote is the problem (which I doubt as they are considering put 2 per Wii) I dont see many reasons.

Ah yeah your right. Didn't think about that. Now I'm confused. Does anybody know when Nintendo's fiscal year ends?

They still need be cautious. Even if you can, you don't want to produce 42 million units in two days if the real demand is only 2 million. 6 million is a heck of a lot! I don't know that we've seen that many from launch, a million a month, on any other console. Asa start, on new tech that hasn't been produced at all yet (by accounts the GPU isn't even done), it all sounds very ambitious to me. And if sales are they Nintendo can ramp up. The idea of producing more just because Sony are managing 6 million on PS3 (a target, not proven yet, very ambitious) and Wii is simpler ergo they should make more, doesn't strike me as sound reasoning ;)

That isnt my reasoning. What I am saying is that what they say sugests they think it will sell more than PS3 (gamers+no gamers+ second console (depending in others features meybe even more people)) it should be much easier to produce than PS3 yet they will "only" produce the same.

Meybe they are predicting a "slow" adoption rate (no gamers specialy) so they can lower production costs before they start really selling it to everybody.

I'd still say they being cautious. No matter what they want it to do, selling to whole new audiences etc., they still have to show some business accumen. Better to start too low and ramp up production than produce them too quicklyt and scale down. There's no real desperate rush to get these out there. Nintendo aren't looking at a 'first to 10 million wins' target as they aren't really competing. It's a matter of pacing themselves and managing their production as suits them.

To consider the other possibility, if they were to make more, how many more, and can you be sure the market would take it up that quickly? What if they were to produce 10 million in 6 months? Is that something they should do? Let's say Nintendo can make any amount at launch. What would your choice be and why?

I'm going to take a stab at $229. It's exactly $100 more than the DS lite and somewhat inline with the yen numbers.

I'm going to predict that 6 million will not be enough, lines will be longer than the Xbox 360's in the USA, and will longer than DS lite lines in Japan... just based on the online buzz that I've seen and word of mouth buzz.

$229 with a game like warioware or Wii Sports would be ok. I actually think its imperative they include a game that shows off the controller in its comfort zone.

People buying a Wii and only Zelda might get put off by the controls (based on the feedback form E3)...
