What's the worst chores games have ever inflicted on you?

I remember playing Shenmue II, and having to walk these books out of some house/temple/library. Over and Over and Over again.

And it was literally, a daily chore.

Talk about bringing games to a halt.
The whole game was like that for me. Walking around in Oblivion too

The Onyxia chain for alliance in WoW was THE worst. The first like 10 initial quests require you to go back and forth between two areas delivering messages, then you have to find a drop that has a 2% drop rate, then do an escort in an instance, more talking to people, then down a boss in a 10 man instance.

metroid prime, the final boss is far away from the last savepoint and between them, lot of plateform jumping with these nasty metroids annoying you. this boss isn't easy I have to try a lot before you beat it.

didn't finish the game :(

FFX practically wrote the book on stupid chores in video games. In addition to dodging lightning bolts:
- you had to "race" a chocobo while getting bombarded with birds and blitzballs (for Tidus' weapon I believe). You pretty much have to make a perfect run in order to get the time required. It's about as fun as it sounds.
- you had to play Blitzball to get Wakka's weapon. Blitzball involved no reflexes whatsoever, it was all about hiring the best players and that's it.
- you had to catch butterflies. This involved touching all the blue ones and avoiding the red ones within a time limit. It basically amounts to finding the one correct path after trying over and over.
Dunno.
I mean, you're absolutely right in that FFX had the most horrible and frustrating minigames to grace the earth. The butterflies thing alone ... *bites table*

OTOH FFX is a fast and pleasant game if you ignore those entirely optional challenges. Fighting off a group of pity low-level enemies in FFX takes what, five seconds, including loading times and all?

Compare that to Skies of Arcadia: Legends (preferably the PAL version, which is an extra 20% slower) where everything takes at least a minute to get out of, literally. The whole game is a chore.
*cough*

My vote goes for fishing mini-games. Universally. Zelda, Breath of Fire, whatever, they are all guilty of utmost awfulness despite looking friendly at first.

That only holds true till the last fights of the game. I played FFX twice up to the point where you fight against Jeckt (however he was called), I had no chance beating him. Solution? Run around and level up and/or find some nice gear (so its not entirely optional )... and that gets boring fast

The same was true with FFVII, only that it was the crater with tough regular enemies.

Two games I will likely never finish.

FF7 wasn't THAT hard to beat, with some effort (and without having all the best equipment) you can do it around the high 30s, which you should be at by that point anyway. It'll be painful though, with a high chance of dieing to the boss.

FFX has a totally stupid aspect in that damage you deal is capped to 9999 unless you have a fancy weapon. Which either means getting lots of dark matter (collect 5 of every creature, when some have a 1 in 20 chance of showing) or collect the Celestial weapons (dodging lightning bolts for half an hour). I'm going to finish that game because I always finish my games, but certain characters will be pretty impotent because of this damage cap and the fact I missed the unknown secret things I was supposed to have done 60 hours earilier in the gameplay and now I can't get into the temples because there's impossible Dark Aeons in the way.
