What music are you listening to right now?

I'm going to pick up The Roundhouse Tapes soon, I'm contemplating if I should get both the CD and DVD (when it releases). I'm a huge Opeth fan, and supporting them is a key to my own musical survival. They'll be going on tour with Dream Theater in 2008, I would imagine they'll have a US leg to the tour. Would be awesome, tickets will probably sell like mad (relatively). I'm fully willing to bet Opeth would blow DT off the stage as far as live performance (and musical talent in general :)).

Although I like Opeth's music, the voice somehow doesn't do it for me. But they're surely a great live band.

The Dillinger Escape Plan - Lurch

Ire Works is interesting. I think it is an album that has masterpieces and horrible trash on it. In some reviews its getting rave reviews for all the wrong songs, and in others its getting bashed a bit to hard. Basically depends on how "hardcore" you are. The good songs however are amazing, and I like the album as a whole much more than Miss Machine. Certainly no Calculating Infinity though, we'll never likely hear one of those again.

Opeth- Under the Weeping Moon (Roundhouse Tapes)

I'm beginning to notice a trend with Opeth's live sets, especially when they're playing some of their older songs. Typically I strive for bands who can replicate their studio performance live. Well, Opeth has a habit of EXCEEDING their studio performances with a lot of their live songs. In fact I can name at least three songs on "The Roundhouse Tapes" that are downright better then the original track. "The Night and the Silent Water" is another example, and definitely "Demon of the Fall."

Listening to The Roundhouse Tapes right now and just got to Under the Weeping Moon. Holy shit! Kicks the hell out of the original recording. I'm going to bet the other two older songs do as well on it (Face of Melinda, The Night and the Silent Water), simply because Opeth has grown so much since then. The last minute of this song is so powerful.

In Flames- Abnegation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lG0cUPAhK4w)

i never hear In Flames on the radio. Not even on XM LM (Liquid Metal, yes they have terrible channel names, but they play a lot of radio unfriendly metal, i.e really obscure stuff or like eleven minute epic songs, which is fantastic.) Anyway, IF is one of my favorite bands, even though Anders, in concert, is completely illegible. His English is really bad. But one of my friends went on tour with them, and told me they spent a lot of time playing WoW. Their new stuff is really melodic, which I kind of like. That doesn't mean their old stuff is bad, certainly now. "Whoracle" remains one of their best cds.

If only their lyrics would make any sense :p But I like their music too. I met them actually, a good friend of mine works for Nuclear Blast (the label), so I get to meet many bands personally :) InFlames are a great bunch for sure.

There old stuff is leagues better than their new stuff. Soundtrack to your Escape (lawl) and Come Clarity are shit and yes I just said that! I'm a big fan of their older works, particularly Lunar Strain, The Jester Race, and Whoracle.

Finally got the new Tomahawk album and its everything you'd expect from a Mike Patton work.

Tomahawk - Cradle Song

Little tip : with Audacity you can record lp's at 45 or 78 (quicker) and the program will convert it back to 33 for you..

The Zombies - Beechwood Park

Seriously one of the best bands ever, simply magical music that has stood the test of time far better than many of their contemporaries.

I watched that Tom Cruise video clip on Scientology earlier... The first bit didn't sound too bad, but then at some point it's completely clear that Tom is off his rocker (in case there was some doubt).

Anyway, I'm sure this isn't the best thread for this (I didn't see a separate thread), but it does answer the question in the topic :)

Cut Chemist - The Audience's Listening.

I heard a track from it in a TV ad the other night. Milan Kundera was right about music.

KALMAH- "The Black Waltz" and "Heros to Us."

Also, as of late I've been delving into Kevin Smith and Scott Mosier's podcast, titled "SModcast." Its absolutely hilarious. Each podcast is between one and two hours. Kevin is actually a hilariously intelligent individual, even though I'm not the biggest fan of his movies. I highly recommend it to people who enjoy being poised with awkward scenarios that will be dissected with the utmost scrutiny. An advanced warning, most of the material is NSFW.

A track from a musicians forum colleague called [In]Human. Very much like Cynic, I hope he'll be able to do some serious recordings soon.

The White Stripes - Jolene

Amazingly powerful cover. Truly elevates the song.

I never thought I would care for The White Stripes but when one of my friend's forced me to listen closer I found a sound I could truly enjoy.
