What are you playing now? [2007-2018]

Finally pulled the trigger on a 360. Dell is selling the Pro at $200 with free shipping, so I couldn't resist. Amazon is also running a special where you get a $40 credit toward a future game purchase if you buy $80 worth of select games from them. So I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, complete Lego Star Wars (figured my daughter would enjoy this), and Fight Night Round 3.

I bought a Pro when they lowered the price to $249 to clear the 60gb model out. I purchased it at Target and got a free wireless controller to go with it. My boy was happy to finally play Halo 3. Had a lot of fun playing coop with him. Now we are playing Hal0 3:ODST. I also bought Lego Star Wars, both kids are playing it coop.

I'm not paying $35 to play a few crappy console ports

My 360 pad is one of the best gaming investments I've made. Prince of Persia, DiRT, GRID, well basically all racing games, various emulators, Assassin's Creed (though it could've worked better in that game), Crysis when I'm kicking back on the couch, and the list goes on. Definitely good for more than "a few crappy console ports."

I agree with that. Works wonders with GRID and Shift. Although I first found it ugly but it has grown on me. It is comfortable. But if he already has a wheel then there is little use of a gamepad IMO. Emulators, that is a good point and old games like Freespace etc.

For racing games I have a G25, not sure the 360 pad will be better ;)

but even Console platformers (like Trine) play way better with the added precision of KBD/MS over analog sticks.

I cannot agree with that at all. I tried Trine on keyboard/mouse and my controller. Keyboard/mouse was far more awkward to use.

Of course not. But I assume that wheel was more than $35, and you *only* use it for racing games. Just saying, the 360 pad ain't exactly a ripoff at that price.

I already have the wheel and I won't pay 35 for something that I will only use on a few crappy console ports. The G25 is well worth the price for me, the 360 pad isn't. Simple as that.

currently have 'active' games going of: max payne 2 (at the twirly tube area), GTA4 (just opened up algonquin) been 'playing' this same game since Dec 08! Risen (loving it), Two Worlds (almost done, but decided to try to decimate the ENTIRE landscape (find/kill everything) before ending the game), fallout 3...Deus Ex (just after the statue of liberty level....at the office)

Just out of interest, why didy ou buy RE5 if you consider it just a crappy console port? And have you considered that the only reason you're not enjoying it is because your trying to play it with an less than ideal control method?

The sad fact is that most PC games these days are console ports and most of them are made for the control pad first. A lot of them are extremely good games too.

Lets just say I got a really good deal on it.

And your second paragraph is false btw.
Mouse and KB is the ideal "control method" for FPS/TPS games, it's only because they coded the controls so shitty that the 360 pad would more more ideal.

RE Controls have been crap since it's first itteration and it really doesn't matter if you play it on a PSOne or a high-end PC. it's control scheme is retarded (Still.)

The controls for RE5 are fine on the gamepad... It took until RE4 before they had a decent control scheme.

Roughly... 8 or so RE games have been released with the original control scheme, and two Dino Crisis games.

Has there ever been an explanation? Are the same devs working on it for all these years and they simply don't know how to code decent controls?

it is there to add a feeling of claustrophobia.. or lack of control.. I say it's a lack of normal attitude.

My understanding is that recent Capcom PC games including RE5 and SFIV are better than the average console ports - Capcom is actually doing all their development on the PC version first for these games. So the PC versions look and run really well. The downside is that they won't completely rework a game like RE5 that was designed for a console controller - BUT, this is still miles ahead of most other console ports that historically look bad and run slowly, i.e. they are inefficiently programmed.

What's more interesting is that Capcom is going to develop some new games exclusively for the PC. So that's a console developer starting projects that are PC exclusive, what a switch. Guess there's still some life left in the 'dying' PC platform.
