What are you playing now? [2007-2018]

Chris sort of looks like a monkey to me anyway lol ;)

BTW, I got to Jill last night and thought she looked like a female Leon!

May I ask, what did you like about it? The mechanics are stripped into nothingless and challenge is non-existant. Even Ebert saw the game for what it is. That's the typical pretentious "hipster" game with no substance.

I'm surprised, I loved BRAID too.
The story was great the gameplay was nice and new (to me), and it also looked unlike most games I usually play.

Here's one review. Tell me what you think.

"Artful" or "artistic" have become labels for games with inferior design/mechanics, but that go with some kind of bs artsy "sentimental" sensibilities. Devs have been focusing (and should continue) on making games with more or less complex, challenging mechanics, regardless of the genre. Why are suddenly these gimmicky supposedly "art" (which they are not) games excused from proper game design?

I think that Braid made a lot of people feel good. I also think some reviewers tried to come up with compliments for it because of the way it made them feel, and they came up with bad ones.

We (missus and I) didn't find the game mechanics particularly great, nor the dialogue, nor having to look up the meaning of the game on the internet to make sure we had it right. We did love the revelations that came during the gameplay, especially the twist that shattered our initial assumption of the relationship between your character and the others.

We loved it as an experience - not in the same way as a regular computer game, more like going to the theater and getting into the performance. I guess it's up to each reviewer whether they can be honest about how much they 'fell in love' with Braid and for what reasons.

Ok, beat RE5 to 100% completion, Professional is a bitch but it made the game scarier again. Started playing Red Faction: Guerilla but I'm on the look out for RE5 mods, if anyone knows of any cool ones give us a shout. (I saw there's a "replace Sheeva with Jill" one out there)

I loaded up RE5 again too, but I am just continuing my first play through. I think RE4 is probably the better game and have that installed yet on my TVPC (with a big restorative texture pack too) but I haven't touched it in a long time.

I agree, RE4 is the better game. Longer too, IIRC it took me around 25 hours to beat that while my first play-through RE5 took me around 15 hours. I have RE4 all modded up too, with high quality cinematics and textures taken from the GC version or something. I have it somewhere on backup ready to uncompress so that I don't have to go through the 50 steps procedure to get the game playable.

The only gameplay advantage I believe RE5 has over RE4 is the partner system. I know a lot of people complain about the A.I. and stuff but I never had much problems. Keep valuable herbs and handguns out of your partner and they do an adequate job.

Jill was a bit of a disappointment.
Firstly I prefer brunettes by far so seeing her platinum blonde was a shock, secondly her nose looks like she was punched by Balrog, finally the pulling out the amulet thingie drags on for soooooo long. We get it, we have to work to beat this "boss" but geez, do we really need to pull at it so many times?

The business suit is where it's at for me...

The sexy librarian look is very nice but the tribal costume let's you appreciate the boob physics more :p

It's too bad Chris' outfits aside from his default all make him look like a dumbass. :(

Don't you like the STARTS costume? It even makes Chris' biceps look semi-normal!

I think the double DDs and like 38 inch ass on her say you need eyeglasses, or new ones. ;)
lol! No it's her face structure. They look like they're siblings. :) I immediately thought of RE4's Leon when I first saw her. No delay. ;) It helps that I've recently played RE4.

There's no denying that the character models of this game are excellent just like with RE4. The best visuals of the game.

let's see: first and foremost I thought it was visually striking. I'd get a painting of that starting screen and put it on the wall Iif I could. The music was fantastic as well.
Then there's the game part, and when people claim that it is merely a gimmick with no substance, I'm just gonna assume the are talking out of their asses. Not only is the puzzle design genuinely clever in general, it also changes significantly from one world to the next by altering the base mechanics of the game. It was a decent challenge too (felt just right, and certainly way more challenging than Portal 2, which everyone seems to be madly in love with)

I didn't really care much about the story. Too vague for my taste. Really didn't make a lot of sense to me either. While not spelling out everything in great detail is much appreciated (Silent Hill 2 would be a good example for this), I do like me some clear fundementals as a starting-off point. I can certainly see why you'd call that part pretentious hipster bs. Thing is, in a world where most games aspire to pretty much next to nothing at all in the story telling department, a little bit of pretentious hipster bs suddenly doesn't sound all that awful anymore.

and thats not even mentioning the freaking great last level. Braid is certainly beautiful with its own art style, but thats not why some people call it art I guess. Its the game itself that stands out, how the puzzles are presented and each one is pretty unique.
Well.. just unlike most games, which have the same mechanics and "solutions" everywhere, Braid isnt based on platforming skill but figuring out how to exploit the mechanics to find solutions for the puzzles. If you compare it to Mario then thats similar with comparing Portal to a purebred FPS and complaining that there arent more guns. And if thats why you diss it, you sound like this guy (its linked from green.pixel`s review)

Just started playing Dead Space 2 last night as it's now $29 digital download (got it on Steam of course).

I let myself get sucked back into LOTRO after about a 3 month hiatus from the game. My little hobbit burglar, Pilfer Dibs (yes, my toon names suck), has been stuck at lvl 63.5 for over a year, so I decided to get her to the max of 65 over the last few weekends. Turbine really overhauled the Legendary Items and relics systems in some bad ways, such as requiring store purchases to remove the socketable relics from LIs now. This alone is just about enough to permanently push me away from the game.

Good call on waiting for the price to come down on that one. ;)

I knew it wasn't going to be a spectacular PC showcase but I really enjoyed the first one, I'm a huge fan of sci-fi survival horrors. They focus on really good lighting and that's what really helps with this game. I've barely played 5 minutes but if it's as good as the first one then I'll be really happy with my $29 purchase.

Pay-to-win sucks ass (and for those who are actually into that (ugh!), not in a good way)... I've been curious about LoTRO now that WoW managed to lose its charm finally, but I've had my fill of microtransaction shit from the Mann Store in TF2.

I don't think store purchaseables should be REQUIRED, ever. I'm even wary of required vendor-bought stuff - my biggest gripe overall with WoW is its crappy and mostly completely useless crafting system - which is both sad and hilarious considering "craft" is part of the friggin' title of the game!

In an ACTUAL world, EVERYTHING originates from "players" - actual people, really - you don't go to an inn and stock up on unlimited amounts of food and water (or liquor, as may be the case with some) which aren't available from any other source.

IMO, pretty much anything a player can equip or use that isn't dungeon or quest loot, should be manufacturable by players.

So basically you want EVE-Online for people with leather skirts, big ears, green skin and a big hand-held "weapon"?

TBH you don't really need to buy all that much things for LotRO to make it comfortable to play. I'd say only thing you'll definitely want is extra bagspace. Bonus quests, classes and skirmishes (kind of like dungeons) aren't bad either but there is plenty of content without them as well. Removing gold cap won't hurt either but is definitely not needed unless you intend to hoard a ton of gold or want to buy/sell loads of things on auctionhouse.
