Was the minimum framerate in Halo single player <30?

Well IIRC, Sega wasn't able to collect any revenue. Live is already generating revenue for MS. They'll probably have 1 million Live users by the end of 2003, making it the biggest paid gaming network in the history of the industry.

HAHAHAHA!!!

Yes... if you look past the measly USD 1 billion (or 2 billion depending on the source) it took to establish the network.

And IIRC Steel Batallion is by far the best selling $200 game ever, does that somehow make it the best game ever? After all, it cost more then the competition and sold a lot better then any other $200 game.... right?

I initially made my reply about Live! to the ludicrous comment that nothing comparable has been done before. Sega had a console based network up years ago in the US, and at their peak they had a larger user base for it then Live! does now. Implying in any way that MS needs patches because they are online is utterl assinine.

I was wrong about MS though. Releasing multiple patches for console games clearly sets a new high standard for the industry. We can only hope that someday all games will be sent to us totally unplayable and we can wait months for patches before we can play the games in an extremely buggy fashion and then after a year, maybe, we will have functioning software. Think of how much longer we will play the games we play if all games can require patches to be playable!!! Truly MS is trying to raise the bar significantly. I see now that Morrowind should be held up as a true triumph of the industry, along with a first party software utility needing a patch. Maybe Sony and Nintendo can work at this and release memory cards that won't work without a patch for their next console! Maybe even controllers!! Think of how that would aid in your anticipation of your console. You could boast endlessly how your controller is so complex that it needed six patches to get working. Obviously MS has proven themselves to be utter geniuses and worthy of praise unseen before in the console industry. Patches are an utter blessing, and we should all hope that all consoles need a patch for everything by next generation. Only then can all gamers truly appreciate the vast heights that MS is trying to elevate us all to.

Matsushita actually bought JVC to get the rights to the VHS technology JVC created. Sony (Betamax) and Philips (V2000) were not open to other companies and JVC were reluctant to share with Matsushita.
The takeover of JVC was the beginning of the end of the format wars. And the fact that Sony wouldn't allow porn on Betamax.

That's really interesting trivia
Where did read this information from?

Online console gaming is meaningless without voice over IP, gamertag features, and a good matching system. Sega had none of these features. I give Sega huge props for what they accomplished, but it is true that MS is venturing into uncharted territory in a big way.

Pay no attention to ben, he's on crack and doens't know what the hell he's talking about.

.

Online gaming is meaningless without good games, I might add.

The PC experience at a fraction of the price!

Sounds great to me

IYO, which judging by the sales of Live! so far isn't exactly the same as the overwhelming majority.

They created a carbon copy of PC game formats for consoles, right down to what we have all been longing for and what truly proves MS to be the ultimate deity in the industry, patches.

Uncharted territory... How many dozens or hundreds of games do you want listed that do what what Live! does? Sony even had voice over IP out for the PS2 before Live! was launched. What has MS done that is new? I will openly admit that Live! is the first on line service for Microsoft's XBox console that has all of those features, is that supposed to be the new territory?

What is new is the combined effect of the kit, the infrastructure and the marketing.

Combined effect...? What is different from a slew of PC games to offer all the same features? The infrastructure? Compared to GS, The Zone and even Sony's own network I don't see the big difference. The marketing is different though. I would think they would, you know, market it. Every day I watch any TV I see the commercial with the group of guys playing SOCOM and getting slaughtered by the armed forces players, and I can count the amount of times I've seen TV ads for Live! on one hand. I guess on that front, having the least marketed solution from current generation hardware I can see how it is different.

You don't get it Ben. Play live for a while and see what all the fuss is about. After a day you'll realize that it's worlds better than any other online console gaming experience you've ever had. Personally, I'm glad that MS is allowing the patching of cheats/exploits in the games. Sega's online games became practically unplayable because of these problems.
