So, going through the God of War thread, I saw a comment regarding the game. Someone said that it wasn't doing a good job proving that "not all games are murder sims" or something to that effect.
It got me thinking, when will things change? I mean, when will we stop seeing people who one, actually believe this, and two, actually care what these people believe?
I think within the next 20 years, our generation (well, mine, people in their 20's) will transition into government, we'll be the "parents" of a new generation, and perceptions will change.
Right now, I just think we're still in a time where our parents, and their parents, still do not understand videogames, and still have really obtuse views on videogames in general (as well as other forms of art).
I really believe that as our generation grows older, things will change, and people will finally realize that a generation raised on videogames still produced politicians, doctors, activists, athletes, even presidents.
We really aren't going to help "change" if we try to conform, in my opinion. If a game is violent, a game is violent. We can't expect to censor our games or town them down and still be taken seriously. Movies made these steps nearly 20 years ago, and they continue to move forward today. Like movies, there will be good games, and bad games, but games no less, and if you don't like it, you don't have to see it. There is no reason, however, to believe that they need to conform to the expectations of a generation that does not undestand them.
Please, give me your input ladies and gentlemen, I'd love to hear what you have to say (be it an agreement or disagreement!).
