I am still hoping Square will bring a sequal for this gem. One of the most involving I've played in recent times (last 3 years).

Jeez, no matter where I am, every time FF is brought up it becomes quite contentious. :p

Offhand I'd throw in Sierra's complete mismanagement of Lord of the Rings video games (and especially the MMORPG), what with it being one of the best licences out there, and knowing the the Peter Jackson films were upcoming and would be more effective than any amount of marketing dollars they ever spent on their games.

Can we keep this thread, AT LEAST this thread, confrontation-free?
    Pretty please?

All i can say, and we've been through this over and over and over, is that someone who spent 2-3 hours on FFX will never know how good it is.

One of the many flaws of this fantastic games is that it is very slow to begin with (i loved the beginning, but i'm a freak)... it takes time to get used to, and the story picks up big time after hours of playtime...

let's just keep this thread friendly and cool and fun ok?

    just found it!

No camera-centering button in Jak2. A nearly perfect game without camera centering button? what were they thinking? :D

well then JVD you must be an ignoramus

DW was great in the day. It was the only game i knew that had spells called "Hurt" and its latter incarnation "Hurt More" which both caused damage. Rather straight forward. I was hoping that in DWII we'd have even more well named spells; "Damage" and "Damage More", Fire level one through three ("Fire", "More Fire", "Even More Fire"). Unfortunately that never came to pass.

thats the thing. Some people on these boards make it sound like if you don't like the popular thing then your an idiot . I have my own mind and If i don't like a game I don't like a game. I rather play ffx than gta . But then again I feel ffx is almost as mindless as gta . I like depth. I like storys that don't make me feel like i've played it before only to find out i have because the story its taken from a bunch of older games and they added new chars and locations .

    Back to the main topic.

Here's a good one - Why does the Dragon Quest series never gain popularity anywhere else?

apparently some of those people are moderators. Yes i know exactly how it feels to be around people like this 24/7. WIth my professors and their leftist propaganda in college and even at home when i'd rather be free to speak my mind about how i feel. At home i have a roomate that you acts similiarly. If you don't like what he does you must be an idiot. Clearly if you do not you lack the ability to perceive what a good game is. He becomes very defensive when i ridicule titles such as zelda saying much of what you have said about FFX; i felt the game was a mindless reincarnation of Zelda I lacking in real depth, story or purpose. I say similiar things about many nintendo games in these forums and i am labled an xbox fanb-y.

What really drives me nuts is when these people try and associate principles of game A category (the game or games you do not like) with category of game(s) B (the one or those you do like) in order to try and convince you to like it. It is as if they can not reason out in their own minds that you may have different interests then them. Its fine with me they have the capacity to draw parrallels but i seldom dislike a game for a single reason.

i am sure there are many reasons. Marketing may be one, its look and story may be another. The game never struck me as all that interesting in the first place.

Probably the developers don't realize it is as bad as that until very late in the developement. But by this time a lot of money has already been spent on the developement + licenses. However, you'll need still a very hefty sum of money to make it good. Nevertheless, the game might not sell a lot better. So they go after the fast and easy money than for more costs with somewhat better sales. Rather sell a bad product with less red numbers than a good product with more red numbers.

But then again that is a short sighted aproach. People are gonna remember those bad games (well maybe not the casual gamer, its sometimes shocking how many people are able to actually love some of these low-quality titles) and next time around they're gonna have a lot harder time convincing people to buy yet another of their crappy games. At least I have a slight hope that the market has a way to regulate itself in this way. Bring out too many crappy games and you're gonna go out of business sonner or later...

Of course we experience quite a lot of times where people don't like something--a game or whatever--simply BECAUSE it's gotten too popular or just because they're annoyed by the hype. I would freely call someone dopey if they based their opinion on a game (or movie, or book, or TV show...) simply from a few reviews, or knowing sketchy details, or experiencing only a bit of it, and ESPECIALLY if they let themselves be swayed by popularity or hype.

The only "ignoramus" comment in here was in a rather nasty rejoinder to someone taken aback by very negative, simplistic, and broadscale comments about a swath of games (including the general "border" people have going from 6 to 7, and secondary border of 7 to 8) and asked questions that are certainly relevant to framing those responses in the proper light. (If you broadscale just don't care for a certain genre of games, whether it be "traditional" console RPGs, RTSes, or anything else, your commentary comes out biased, and many people DO quit games a short way through so may be basing their annoyance just on pacing or expectations.)

So far the negativity in here has been self-fulfilling.

Maybe they assumed Spielberg would be a REALLY big fan and/or not want anything associated with his movie to be a failure and buy up the unsold copies? ;)

Damn, I only read about that like a month ago but I don't remember the details exactly. I think ET basically sucked because it was hastily assembeled in last minute for christmas by a very small team (wasn't it even a single individual?) suring only a couple of weeks, with no game design whatsoever existing in advance, need I say more?
