Videogame Mysteries

Right, let me explain this one...

I'd love this thread to be about all those whacky decisions from manufacturers, developers, publishers that have no apparent explanation, or the explanations given are just out of this world...

Or "vanished" games, or "vanished ideas"...

Any kind of "mystery" in the videogame market...

Past gens as well as current ones...

(You do know what i mean right.... errr...)

A) Bard's Tale 4:
EA spent a lot of money and then cancelled it.

B) Planetfall Remake:
Activision made an engine and then cancelled it.

C) Ravenblade:
Nice engine, nice gfxs and cool atmosphere and then Retro killed it

Wasn't Outcast 2 demoed for PS2 before it was canned?

Thrill Kill was pretty much finished and hyped when it was killed(fear the pun) as well.

Why were there little purple dragons on the first level of Super Mario World, only for them to never appear again, not even in other games? Just seemed a bit inconsistent to me. :/

I dont remember the Purple Dragons...!!
I think one of the greater mysteries is the absolute death of the 2D platformer.
:(

How the entire Final Fantasy crew @ Square seemed to be tossed aside to let Production Studio 4 (Vangrant Story/FF Tactics) handle FF XII, changing it completely, despite X and X-2 selling very well.

Answer? Hell if I know, but it sooks :?

Why does it "sook"? Last I checked Vagrant Story was one of the best RPGs from Squaresoft, so this should be a good thing, should it not?

Starfox 2 on SNES, apparently 99% finished and ready to be manufactured but was canned.

I can explain that one - SNES was literally at the end of its life cycle, and Star Fox 64 was intended as a launch title for N64. Nintendo didn't want to compete with itself, marketing a new game for a dead console and clashing two games in the same series, a generation apart, at the same time.

Late-release SNES games in general did poorly, though - look at the beautiful Kirby's Dreamland 3. I bet you didn't even know that had a US release.

My own mysteries:

1. Why the crap did Capcom recall the US version of Breath of Fire II for SNES?

2. WHY OH WHY DID QUEST HAVE TO GIVE SQUARE ITS GAMES DIVISION?! ;_;

"Sooks"? Can't be much worse now can it?!

FFX was SHIT. FFVIII and IX were dumb. FFVII was seriously blah. FFVI was blah. See the trend here?!?

FF is a gaming series going from bad to worse ATM, they should have made it final fantasy long ago!

*G*

FF6(US FF3) was the best in the series.

7 was also IMO the last good one.

Wow, um... I'd like to know how much time, if any, you spent with any of them? And if you like any other 'traditional' RPG's at all?

Greatest Videogame Mystery Ever: How did Atari plan to sell all those ET cartridges, anyways?

We've gone over the FF X thing with Grall ad nausem before, just let it rest that he/she/it doesn't like the game and won't give it a chance (ie: getting Auron). Personally I think X was the pinacle of the series, but that's just me.

Regardless, Nomura-san, Sakaguchi-san, et al. seemed to have been ousted from FF XII's development, and I think that's a pretty big 'video game mystery'.

 Of course, he must be an ignoramus or dislike "traditional" rpgs if he doesn't enjoy the FF series.

Aopeal got screwed over by infrogrames. That's why we neve rsaw an outcast 2. Appeal then went belly up, and some of the people formed a new studio. I'll see if I can find thier webpage.

Aren't those guys too busy with Kingdom Hearts 2? All it did was change hands, but Nomura's work with Kingdom Hearts has created a new big franchise. Square Enix said they had the 3 main pillars of the company, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Kingdom Hearts.

Doesn't seem like a big mystery to me.
