What makes you think Money Hats?

There’s certainly certain technology investments that we’re interested in, and we’ll continue to make, but right now it’s sort of hard for us to get excited about the Xbox 360s install base, and the PS3 slipping so that’s where we are.

I don't expect any kind of abrupt about-face like that without some kind of hard currency changing hands. What, exactly, made Gabe do a 180 about the 360? Did the platform completely change in a few months? Hence my guess of the money hats. It's just a guess.

Didn't MS release some news about opening up XBOX Live shortly after that article appeared? Could that not have been a factor?

A factor, yes. And I did cite that (Live Server Protocol (LSP)). But I rather doubt that one thing is enough to make that much of a difference in opinion.
