USA PSP RELEASE DATE (24th march)with only Value Pack ?

Well, at the moment they seem to be a mix of games between SNES and a N64 quality.
The Metroid games sure seems to be the technically most advanced, and would look like about N64 quality (if we take into consideration the lower res, just like PSP games are comparable to PS2 games ;) )

I am quite suprised that Sony still enjoys so much success in Europe (as with Playstation, Europe seems strongest saleswise) while consistently treating european customers as second or third grade (price- and delay-wise)...

well at this price, they're not going to kill GameBoy Advance or DS. I can hear a collective sigh of relief at NoJ and NoA. I think Sony should've priced this at $199.
I don't think Sony were ever trying to kill GBA/DS. Sony are in it for the money.

Sales thus far indicate demand is higher than supply. One way to solve that is to up price, decresing demand, while at the same time increasing takings. Originally Sony and Ninty were talking about different price points for different markets.

As long as both have large enough user-bases, they'll remain proiftable, and the two systems aren't necessarily competing head to head. Those that want the features of PSP aren;t going to buy the cheaper DS instead because it's a very different system with very different features. As long as Sony don't price the PSP into that 'desirable but too expensive' bracket, they'll be making more money on the same sales, and Nintendo will be making money on DS sales.

I don't mind waits. The delays mean we don't get launch hardware with launch defects, but v1.1.

Cause Europe is treated like shit by everyone? So if anything, europeans should lose interest in everything electronic related. HDTV issue, DVD release issue (delays and cuts in features), Movies release issue... Everything...
At least Euro PS2 games retain progressive scan compatibility. Xbox and GC's ones dont.

Instead, we only do what's best for us, nag nag nag and keep buying things.

But then again, things done in Europe, are usually released first in Europe.
Like...... many rally games (Colim McRae, WRC), SCEE games (Getaway, Primal...), european movies and tv series on DVD and devices like N-Gage.

Yeah... that's my point. Europeans get the crap first. :devilish: Kidding...

I am not sure but the first batch of PAL gamecubes did support pro-scan, didn't it?

But anyway this generation was treated better than last gen. We did see better localisations, more PAL60 support, etc... Hell, we did even have a world premiere of non-EU made game (Link Minish Cap).
Hopefully that trend continues and maybe one day when sun and moon meet we'll be equals...
Few things where we did get the shaft: FF-localisation was pretty bad, Animal Crossing was released 2 years late, XBox original launch price was pretty ridiculous...

Well the PAL60 thing makes me laugh... I mean every game on Xbox and pretty much every game on GC supports Pro-scan. But nooooo European gamers dont need it!!!!!
It was also cut from some PS2 games to be honest, but you could always work around it with the Blaze VGA Adapter.
In the end, life stinks in Europe if u're a geek.

Well, if the rumours are true at least Nintendo's rev is going to feature a VGA -out. So pro-scan should be a given; hopefully higher resolutions as well...

Yep i heard that, and it's very good niuz. ;)

I guess if they keep VGA compatibility, they will keep whatever resolutions the NTSC machines support.
It would be just plain SAD if NTSC machines could output at 1024x768 and PAL machine only 640x480 in VGA mode. Won't happen. If they want their lives to continue.

Well you're just going to have to make do with better food, wine and culture. 8)

Is the progressive game issue due to PAL and not having enough progressive displays marketed over there?

How is widescreen support for games? I know widescreen TVs were more popular over there before HDTV really took off in the US (and then still, a lot of Americans insisted on 4:3 HDTV displays).

Widescreen support is fine, many people have widescreen TVs and all the games that support it in the US version, also support it in the PAL version.

The pro-scan issue is that Europe still has no decent HDTV standard, and if we do, not a soul knows about it. Still, why take it off the software, people have Plasma displays. If PS2 games still have the option, then so should the Xbox and GC games. But nooo that would make too much sense.

The PAL xbox just does not have the HDTV options in the menu (when u start it up without a game). The hardware is obviously capable of it, but support was cut from the software. We've talked about this ages ago.

And to be honest i don't know who "decided" to do that.

HDMI is the future, not the good old VGA output (DSUB15).

Oh god... another standard... What's this now? why not DV-I?

Surprising that Europe is adopting the same HDTV standards as the US. Well, except for 50 Hz.

What happened to the "if it's not invented here..." syndrome? What happened to PAL and GSM?

They could still go for MPEG4 instead of MPEG2 and something other than 8VSB for modulation. After all, they wouldn't want HDTVs sold in America to be sold over there.

But if the highest resolution is still 1080i, it doesn't sound like they're using anything better than MPEG2.

What's EVEN MORE DISTURBING are places like EB Games and GameStop taking advantage of what they assume will be rabid demand (or perhaps they were paid off by Nintendo to try to make the PSP more unappealing? ;) ) by only selling the PSP in their OWN forced bundles! WTF is going on here?

Could, perhaps, this all just be a part of the pre-order process, and maybe some sanity will return in time for the launch? Sheesh...
