Uncharted 4: A Thief's End [PS4]

I think they will come down to 30 fps. I mean, ps4 doesn't have any exotic loot hidden inside it that we haven't seen and will suddenly be utilised by ND. There is no hard to program hardware that only super focussed programmers will use like last time.
60 fps was a target, I think they will climb down.

but the GPU in PS3 is quite powerful, married with 8GB GDDR5 RAM.

with uncharted games usually have map design that basically just blocks of very small areas, i think ND can do crazy stuff.

TLOU looked maginificent on PS4, and that was with engine that was not neither built nor properly optimized for new hardware.

I fully expect U4 to look stunning while retaining 1080p60 target.

So isn't there a tech seminar today on how they created the E3 trailer? Anyone know how many hours left to that? Should shed some light on how much we can expect from the in game model I suppose.

you mean ps4.

yes, its there and thats why we had fab looking games from the get go : KZ and Infamous ! UC4 will look better because they get tos pend more time with the hardware but not in "leaps and bounds", thats what i mean. There is no mystery hardware this time which hasn't been "cracked" yet. There are the ACUs, which INfamous was already using, but thats about it, I think. Rest is all about better usage by the software. Getting that UC4 teaser quality, with all characters, AIs, effects together on screen at 1080p60fps seems too far fetched to me.

Lets see what they show, they did say we will see something 'soon'.

They sure raised the bar high. There is not a single game I can think of at 60fps 1080p with a huge amount of detail on the current gen consoles. Any game that aims for lots of detail either sacrifices both or one of the two. Seems impossible. They will be gaming Gods if they achieve it though without visual fidelity sacrifices

MGS5 sure is, granted it has LOD pop ins (if they do fade ins it'll be difficult to notice) and comparatively angular models and worse shading but it also has an insane amount of attention to detail that only Kojima games have, plus it's massive open world with real TOD (unlike Infamous) and lots of physics. I think MGS5 with a few stuff aside is an amazing achievement at 1080P 60FPS, especially after seeing the Africa level. (and if Ground zeros was an indicator it will be constant 60FPS)

I still think UC4 trailer was just very good use of resources (small area due to cutscene), extremely low contrast and dimly lit scene with heavy DoF.

Well MGS5 is also, as far as we can see, nowhere near the level of fine detail (we are being led to believe) UC4 will strive for.
It's all a wait and see game for now, as always.

TBH I'd be impressed if they even manage this level of imagery at 30fps. It's easily the most impressive thing I've seen for current gen console, even better than Ryse and The Order 1886.

At least in terms of character models Ryse is pretty close and Uncharted coming at least 2 years later on more powerful hardware makes it more plausible, particularly if they keep using lightmaps and a linear level design.

Linear level design can surely go a long way. Streamed resources, already used for Uncharted, can extend to tiled textures and even possibly mega-meshes or some similar concept, as the data transfer rates and resource caching can be very carefully managed. Object fidelity is mostly a matter of RAM capacity at this point.

Well, I'm being optimistic. GCN has been around for awhile, buts its not like the majority of the resources devoted to AAA gaming is done on the PC side. Console gaming technically holds back PC gaming more than PC gaming pushes console gaming forward, outside of PC's influence on the console hardware itself. Even AMD states that if you aren't using compute you aren't getting the most out of its modern gpu hardware.

We are at the start of a new gen, so we are starting to see the pairing of big budgets, cutting edge research and modern technology. Versus big budgets and research devoted to better exploiting 3-7 year old fixed tech.

And given Naughty Dog's reputation, I expect they are more than able to push beyond last gen visuals with something more than better resolution and higher framerates.

Making a fan film about Uncharted can get you places. It can even get you a tour of the Naughty Dog studio and an exclusive first look at Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. This is exactly what Martin Sofiedal just did and he’s pretty impressed at what he saw.

"- I got to see some pretty raw stuff from the new game, including drawings of planned action sequences and how all the characters look like now with upgraded graphics. It was almost scary to see Sully as an almost living person. I also got to see a few seconds of the opening scene, which is still under development, but already looking incredible.”
-Martin Sofiedal

Martin goes on and compares the graphical leap as PlayStation 2 to a Pixar movie.

"They showed some tests where Drake was going through a bit of tall grass and how every straw reacted to his movements while also responding to the wind. It was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like it.

I'm guessing they'll show something at the PS event in December.

Since Uncharted 4 is the first game listed on the PlayStation Experience page, I'd be surprised (and engaged) if they didn't

They also specifically call out The Order, Destiny: The Dark Below, Bloodborne, Until Dawn, Mortal Kombat X, No Man's Sky (yay!), Arkham Knight, The Witness (had forgotten all about it), Little Big Planet 3 and PlanetSide 2.

Not an exhaustive list as it reads "check back for more".

This is so far away, I only want to hear about it about a month from release. But that seems ... unlikely.

bundle it with new PS4 slim and ill sell my fat PS4 to buy PS4 slim + Uncharted in a heartbeat :D

or release it with special price for my country.

but considering this is Sony, i'm pretty sure my country will get special price. Hurray! all games released by sony have special price for my country. Around 10-20 USD cheaper day-one. although Steam is still cheaper, they cut the price around 10-30 for my country.
