Uncharted 3

Don't know where to put it. Might as well stick it here:

Naughty Dog: move to next-gen is "terrifying"
http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2011-12-19-naughty-dog-move-to-next-gen-is-terrifying

Speaking to Eurogamer, studio co-president Evan Wells called the move a "double-edged sword", explaining that: "The geek inside you is always excited about a shiny new toy, but then the practicality of it starts to set in: this is going to be a lot of hard work.

"When you're going to new technology, every day is a slog, progress is slow and it really takes a different kind of attitude and mentality to get through that kind of push and it's not right for everybody."

Wells explained that the switch from PS2 to PS3 was "the period that Naughty Dog had its darkest days and we lost people on a weekly basis - people just couldn't get through it".

He continued: "It's tough and we're definitely walking into it with open eyes."

...

After reading it a couple times it confirms (to me) what I've feared and I guess knew was inevitable, Sony's moving on to a new architecture. I don't agree with it but I do understand it. It's still disappointing though.

Why do you fear "a new architecture" ?

I read through the article a few times; all I took away was the difficult transition period (lose people every week !), and they are on vacation now.

My vacation can't come soon enough.

Hey Patsu, Does Uncharted MP(Online pass) work on both of your ps3's? Or does it work on only th e one on which you redeemed the code? My friend si borrowing my copy and wants to know if he can try online if he logs in via my PSN account through which I redeemed the code.

As long as you activated the other PS3, you should be able to redownload the Online Pass to play on it, using the same account.

EDIT: Remember to deactivate his PS3 when he's done. You only have up to 2 activations at any one time.

Thanx ! I thought the Online Pass works on only the PS3 you redeem it on. Thats fine then, he can try it for a few days and deactivate later.

Ah, But I think it won't work cos my PS3 got replaced long timeback and one activation of all my accounts was lost on that PS3. So, this one which I amusing must be on the second activation already  ! That makes me very scared just in case this ps3 dies, will I lose all my PSN bought games  ! Can the old accounts still be activated on 5 systems?

I think Sony has already reset all our activation list when they switched to the 2 PS3 limit a few months ago. Everyone started with zero.

You should be able to call Sony helpdesk to reset your activation list too.

Umm...from what I know the accounts that were already activated on 5 systems, remain activated but new stuff bought from psn works on only two of them now. Old stuff works on all.

Everyone started with zero ? How does that work? So, if my account is already on two ps3s. what does it mean for me? Which one stays and which one becomes deactivated?

I was told the PS3 will auto-activate when you play a game on that system.

You mean my account is already deactivated from the old ps3 cos I did not play from it after the new rules came in?
BTW, my account worked on my friend's ps3, so I guess that means either old accounts can still be activated on 5 ps3's or that old ps3 got deactivated somehow. On another note, I had shared a game with 5 people long back, that game still works on all 5 PS3s still.

Yes. That's what I meant, or rather what I was told.

See above.

Got this for Crimbo

Campaign - gorgeous. Very Uncharted. I did have stop-and-stare moments. Also very few games have managed to convey to me the ambience of the environment. I love the tropical areas, like Cartegena, which feel hot. The crowds weren't too bad either. The controls can be frustrating. Having 'roll' on the same button as 'duck into cover' remains a little absurd, with Drake taking cover on the wrong side of a box instead of getting out the way. If they want a one-button-does-all solution, they need far better AI to determine whether the player is avoiding a laser beam or wanting to take cover, and to take cover on the correct side of a wall if that's decided. I also dislike the weapons. Not sure why, but they feel unsatisfying next to U2. They all seem a bit vague and pantsy. There's nothing as good as an M4 to look forwards to finding. The minigun only has as many rounds as AK47. The AK47 feel like a generic gun. The pistols are all just pistols. Whenever the character says, "just what I needed" or similar, I'm left feeling, "not really, it's just another gun."

Mulltiplayer - Ha...ha ha...ha.....haaaaaa! What a bunch of morons game designers are! "Here's some friends who want to play together. They've only just started out. Let's pit them against level 70 opponents with all the bonuses and watch them get slaughtered for 30 minutes." I categorically won't buy online games that don't have at least a minimum of tiered games to separate those just starting out from the power players any more. I really don't like the direction they've taken with the likes of Kickbacks. It just feels messier, less pure than U2. It's been polluted with a sheepish copy of the best seller's direction.

Coop - Excellent, and a necessary addition. I like the variety of the coop arenas too, adding loads of replayability. Shame it's limited to 3 players as we formed a party of 4 last night which necessitated playing multiplayer. When one left we enjoyed two rounds of the campaign.

The weapons didn't feel any different than U2. Many ARE the same weapons, so why look for a different feel from them? It seems like that person has a "destined to fail" mentality.

.

Sorry Shifty but the bonuses are not of such scale that it should matter. Aside from them knowing the maps better than you, you just suck. That could have been handled by say implementing a noob only match up like some games have.

Anyways the same bitching happens by noobs in say the mw games - even thought the weapons are very balanced

If they don't make any difference then why have them? Reload speed and magazine can make a significant difference at times when it gets busy. I never beat anyone in a straight firefight in that multiplayer game even when I started firing first. A check of this research shows the FAL-SS does much more damage and has greater accuracy. That's a weapon players won't have access to until level 50.

Exactly, and then further connect games to similarly experienced people instead of throwing the best players against the worst.

I'm not crap, as I can do well in some games. I just represent a mid-range bracket. I took down my own fair share of enemies. There are people worse than me and people better. I want to see everyone having a fun time, instead of the emphasis always on the best having fun at the experience of the lesser capable players.

The bitching comes because they can't compete. They may wrongly blame the weapons, but it shows that multiplayer games fail to cater to everyone who wants to partake, and their developers continue to make the same dumb mistakes without listening or learning. Your attitude represents I think the core, existing multiplayer attitude, which doesn't respect lesser players and so deters them from joining in. If hardcore gaming is to grow and not get swallowed up in mindless iTat games, there are a whole load more people far worse gamers than the current noob whingers who should also be catered for.

I'm not advocating gimping top players, any more than I'd suggest hampering Brazil with heavy coats and fluffy slippers when playing teams way below them like Wales. I'm just asking online games to recognise what every other pastime in the world recognises, that you put people of like ability together to give them a sporting chance. What is the rationale against that? AFAICT only that the elite like picking on lesser players, which is like a heavyweight champion going into a local amateur boxing club and pummelling all the kids.

My only complaint about the guns in Uncharted 3 is that the bullets seem to travel slowly. I feel like I have to lead my targets at short range, where I shouldn't have to. It's more like paintball than a real gun.

I don't know how to use the Uncharted kickbacks. Refuse to learn them.

Still, map knowledge is important. IMHO, separating the noobs from level 70 folks during the first X levels will help smooth the experience somewhat.
