At least we know why SONY raised the price of PS3->offset Casino Royale being "free". :p

You just keep on going, do you? Every thread you take part. I wonder how long before the mods take note.

What difference does it make? It's still equivalent to the increased price for the rest of Europe. Whether it was initially announced at that price or not is irrelevent...semantics. Just because they didn't include the UK in their preE3 conference means nothing. Did you actually think the UK price would be equal to 600EUR?

No. Nearly everyone interpreted the lack of a Sterling price as an indication that the price would be higher in the UK.

The Eurozone price is still EUR 599:

Only Ireland's environmental tax issue is affecting the price there. Please check your facts.

So the UK's price is actually MORE expensive and equal to Ireland's? ;)

In that case it supports my Casino Royale theory quite well...

So the UK price is higher than the EU price because the UK price is subsidizing the inclusion of Casino Royale, for the whole of Europe? The BRD offer isn't a UK offer, you know. PS3 buyers in France and Germany and Luxembourg also get the BRD if they register. How does that fit into your theory?

Jokes aside I actually think it's a valid theory.

Huh ? it's only 500,000 copies of Blu-ray movies. How can it affect pricing ?

If I remember correctly (I'm not so sure since I don't live in UK), the official explanation is the UK distributors want more margin.

Only 500,000..

Only 500,000..
Meaning what? You're saying the UK price is higher to pay for Casino Royale, yet that same movie is available to the rest of Europe who aren't paying that extra 30 Euros. Again, how does that fit into your theory? Why is the UK and Ireland paying extra for the BRD when no-one else is? The answer is, as everyone else knows, the higher UK price has nothing to do with the movie giveaway. The UK price was marked higher than Europe's since prices were first mentioned, irrespective of any pack-ins or extras that are later added to the European release.

It's just a fact of life that the UK pays far more than most countries for technology. We just have a nasty tax system is all.

GI.biz is furthering this news with comment from Play.com.
Online retailer Play.com is taking six times more pre-orders than it received for PlayStation 3 than Xbox 360 - and 15 times more than the Nintendo Wii.

That's according to head of games Gian Luzio, who told GamesIndustry.biz that PS3 is "the most pre-ordered console yet" for Play. The retailer is offering a GBP 524.99 bundle which includes first-party titles MotorStorm, Resistance: Fall of Man and Genji.

That'll be good news for PS3's tie ratio! The report also cites Amazon and Woolies as other chains experiencing high preorders. And in more good news for Sony, BRDs are said to be outselling HDDVDs in the US 2:1.

Only 500,000..

Your theory: Sony increased the price in UK to subsidize the inclusion of Casino Royale

Truth:
1) Its called tax.

2)cost of 500,000 free BR disks are drops in the ocean compared to total costs

3)The free BR disks are available to the first 500,000 european PS3's that get registered whatever the country.

I wondered if Play.com's number include the preorder cancellations on the Wii because they weren't sure if they could fill every preorder. How about Play.com slapping £400 price tag on the 360 while taking preorder prior to MS releasing any official pricing info and taking in to account that no console had debut over £300.
