UK : PlayStation 3 enjoys record pre-orders

It's pretty funny that you would classify the competitors of BR/PS3 as having to play catch-up. They came out later. Pretty easy to make them seem forward-looking when you are comparing them to their competitors past products/functionality.

Maybe I wasn't clear, both Toshiba and MS has to play catch-up from a marketing standpoint in getting the message across that their products are now 1080p compatible whereas Sony (regardless of releasing later or not) always marketed 1080p from the get-go (no re-purchase, upgrade or add-on required, etc...), thus no confusion or flip flopping.

Looks like were following the Netherlands pattern nicely and i see no reason why the rest of Scandinavia, UK, Germany, France shouldn´t do the same..

I´m sorry but anyway you try and spin it, the Europe as defined by the Europe that can and will buy and XBOX360 and a PS3 has alot of HDTV´s.

I did not say in anyway that the pattern doesnt follow in the rest of europe. It probably is like that in the entire world, natural evolution of televisions, you know?

Im not trying to spin anything , antshaw made a theory based on that Europe allegedly had more HDTV than the US, i pointed out that Europe having more hdtv's is very unlikely, considering we are far behind both jpn and us in terms of implementing it.

Try reading things without thinking everybody has an agenda, jeez.

Of those 750 million how many are living in poor countries were a PS3 or 360 is on top of the "must have list"? it would be interesting to see the numbers from the original 12 EU countries + Sweeden and Norway.

If you buy a TV today and it´s LCD/Plasma it's HiDef ready, the sales most be skyhigh..

Flatscreen television sales in denmark :
2002: 1.000
2003: 20.000
2004: 60.000
2005: 200.000
2006: 365.000
2007 400.000+ is expected.

and another thing to note would be that Europe is hungry for HD content... Only Premiere (germany) and SKY HD (Uk, Italy) have HD platforms right now!

And it is very expensive - we have to pay €300 Euro's for HD satelite receivers + very expensive subscription fees. Nevertheless, Sky HD was in such high demand that there were waiting lists.

I really doubt that people buying Sky HD at really outrageous prices, wont be able to purchase PS3 for their BD movies....

.

While HD content is limited, there is far more HD content than what Premiere and Sky HD is offering in europe...

Your post was a direct response to his claim that many first PS3 adaptors where hungry for HiDef material. Then you went out on a sideroad and started to explain how many people that live in europe, something about taxes and income etc etc.. and your conclusion was that 0.8% had HDTV´s in Europe and therefore (i guess?) the claim that people bought a PS3 for HiDef content was wrong.

His post is valid and his point still stands.

It´s hard to read your posts without reading an agenda min ven.

Actually, my post was a direct response to his claim that the EU had a bigger installed userbase of HDTVs than the US. Not directly related to the PS3 or any other plattform.

Ya the hardcore techpihles...how many standalones have they bought, alltogether including HD-DVD and BR, 150,000?? Huge demographic there
To be fair to the argument, that could be because they were waiting for PS3 instead of buying (often more expensive) standalone players. With millions of HDTVs out there where people presumably want HD movies, sooner or later they're all going to start buying an HD player. Maybe they'll wait for $200 standalone players? Maybe they'll buy PS3s? The lack of early adopters doesn't mean PS3 won't appeal as a player first and foremost (best BRD playback out there, and cheapest too) with other functions as a secondary or combination interest - BRD playback for Dad and games for Little Jonny.

While I originally said that in a joking manner, to call the crowd over there the "hardcore techphile" is a little over the top. Particularly the mass of people asking PS3 related Blu-ray questions. Questions any "hardcore techphile" would already know the answer to or could easily figure out. In all seriousness, the PS3's Blu-ray playback "checkbox" should not be ignored when it comes to its sales. I doubt its a huge percentage, but I also doubt its a trivial amount either.
