In addition to the patent search, USPTO has another interesting tool... the trademark search.

For example, in Structured Form Search (Boolean), set "sony" in Owner Name and set AND in Operator, and set "engine" in Mark Punctuated/Word mark. You get the list of trademarks of Sony that contain "engine" like "emotion engine". According to the list, Broadband Engine is not yet published there. The latest one is "Virtual Mobile Engine" which is a reconfigurable processor. Likewise, searching "sony" AND "play" shows "playstation", "live in your wxrld, play in ours." and searching "p" and "sony" shows "P S 2 Playstation 2". Searching "PS3" and "sony" shows "PS3", but since it was filed in 1999, I doubt it's the final name (not really )

Then I searched "broadband" AND "engine" both in Mark Punctuated/Word mark, and found this:

Hmm, "PS ON" = PlayStation Live?

Then I searched "X" and "microsoft", but the results didn't contain Xbox2. Instead it contained "X" itself as a case design for Xbox 1, though.
