Tomb Raider

I picked up TRDE yesterday for the xbox one. So far I am enjoying it quite a bit. I never played the 360 or Ps3 version so I figured why not. One complaint though, Laura's movement seems a little clumsy from time to time especially considering its platformer elements. Im also not to keen on the way you collect Xp and salvage by knocking the lids off of coolers and such. The game has pretty great visuals though.
It doesn't compete with Killzone SF or Ryse in visuals but in my opinion it's far better than alot of cross gen games released so far.

I believe this is intentional and she becomes more capable over the course of the game. I.e., early in the game she'll make a jump and often will only manage a one handed grab and you'll need to press a button for her to get a proper grip. This happens less and less over the course of the game as she gets stronger and more confident.

I don't even know what the rewards are from the tombs you raid, salvage? why does Lara gasps to see a pile of junk when she opens the box at the end of the tomb then? lol

There was no proper reward for tombs, unlike the tombs in Assassin's Creed 2, Brotherhood and Revelations which were challenging, long and had a good reward. And all of this was from a game series with hilariously simple platforming mechanics.

It's definitely a great game, but it isn't tomb raider. Maybe they should call it Lara Croft : Survival or something... Same as including FF MMO into their main FF series. It's like they don't have the confidence that this game would sell if it weren't attached to a well known series.

The game is pretty, and i understand that this is "nothing" compared to what we can expect to see from "real" this gen games? Ok then i am intrigued :)

The atmosphere is pretty fantastic, i must say it's really shit weather to begin with :)

As for the game, it got that very modern feeling, you are on a rollercoaster ride and there is no getting off, just slight moments of pausing and taking in the view. I don't understand the outfits, it's sometimes comes up and says i got something unlocked, but i can access them all anyway.. and i am still waiting on some DOA5 outfits..

Absolutely recommended..

Seems like 39.99 was the sweet spot... the PS4 version jumped to 1st in sales at amazon.com and the XB1 peaked at 3rd (currently 4th). Probably could have done pretty well at 49.99. They actually seem to be out of the PS4 version, expected to ship within 1-3 weeks.

Have only played a few minutes so far, but so far it looks gorgeous.

I just finished the game, it's quite a ride. Plenty of press this right on time, go there go there right on time. But it's worth it, and I like the Tomb puzzles. And the shooting is fun as well, seems there is several options on some encounters and it's a fantastic looking game with so much atmosphere. I really like how the weather shows in the graphics.

Recommended and xb1 friends, I saw it for $20 on Amazon.com?

I truly did not expect to so entertained :)

I am playing it the complete opposite way : I are on a exploration fest and with just a few fights here n there. ;) Love the design of the areas, the way you spend time figuring out how to get the thing you see right in front of you. Lovely, how they make you revisit areas without the "The same place again" feeling. Its always a different area of entry and a different TOD. At quite a few places I did not realise I was "re-visiting" an old area untill I found the same tomb or some landmark again ! WOnderfully done. Wish the game designers were more confident of their exploration gameplay and rewarded it more in the actual gameplay. I am loving finding stuff in this game but the game makes it completely optional, so much that I think its only me in the whole world doing it for fun :p !

Tombs seem to have no puzzles at all. THey really know how to make a good exploration based game, hope they are allowed to go full steam with their ideas.

Also want to add: The art is spot on. Colour pallets for everything are so good, they stand the test of colours even when TOD changes ! Beautiful colours for ambient lights, ground textures, sunlights, etc. ! Brilliant ! Even if the game does not have next gen shaders and lighting techniques, it still scores full marks on visuals ! No jaggies in sight at all and 60 fps makes sure no blurring happens when i turn the camera around: exploring the beautiful areas feels so pristine !

When i reread what I wrote I must admit it's not really what I meant. The small pauses are were you explore, and they are not really small depending on how much time you spend looking for "stuff". You are right about that, I haven't really backtracked that much only when the game does it did I visit the old places. When the game ends you can continue and explore the island and find what you missed, I think I might visit :)

How many tombs have you been in to?

I don't know, 4 or 5, they just have one navigational thing to figure out. Wouldn't really call it a puzzle. And the reward is a map of all the items in the area. They have tried to keep it as "Optional" as possible, to the extent that the reward is meaningless.

Anyways, solving navigational puzzles in the open areas to find hidden stuff is more interesting than the Tombs I have visited till now. Rewards for those are also meaningless, I would expect to get a weapon mod or something, but atleast its more fun to figure out stuff that spans a large open area.

Nice game. Hope the market forces are less pressurizing next time. I can only hope so.

The one navigational thing was enough for me, i liked them, not to hard but a few of them did take some figuring out to do. I dunno how they spread the upgrades for the weapons, but i think the more of the tombs you do, the faster do you get upgrades. It could be that they just pace them according to progress and not related to how many cases/tombs you get into.

Damnit!! I have been enjoying this game alot. I managed to get to 74% completion the other night and just got back to play yesterday and when I loaded my save Im getting the black screen of death error ive heard about for this title. When I load it I get a black screen with ambient sounds. No control inputs work when this happens but I am still able to use the X1 dashboard. I have heard you could fix the problem by deleting your save data and then downloading it back from the cloud. The problem for me though is I only have mobile internet at my home and I havent logged on to Xbox live since I got the last Os update at a friends house. Is there any other fix for this issue? Ive read from other people that this glitch can happen at any point and time in the game.

^ Wow ! NO idea bro ! So sad, in fact I too came to say that the game is in fact the best SP game on next gen right now ! I finished the SP day before but I am still enjoying looking for collectible and upgrading a few weapons. I even found a tomb in the very starting are of the game which I had completely missed earlier :D ! The sad part was that it would not acknowledge my setting things to fire with my bow, but wanted to me set things on fire using lanterns as its not expected for e to have fire arrows at that point. It felt so wrong :p ! Also found a secret area.

Still, the best game. Just exploring its areas is more fun that complete games. Everything is cleverly designed.
