Time to R520 Launch?

Their next product will actually be called the Velocity 128...

which means, a few generations from now... Rampage will rise from the ashes!

(If you can actually follow my logic on that one, I should send you a cookie.)

With the refresh being labeled as Nitro.

I had a STB Velocity 128 a few generations before Rampage died.

Do I get the cookie?

We all know it's a PPU unit on the card, the cats out of the bag...quit trying to sidetrack us. ;)

I am sooo selling my NV40 for a R520 PPU/GPU

If it does not have a PPU I am waiting until the second release of DX10 GPUs. So an upgrade in 2007 somewhere... hopefully... although a 2006 refresh could be enticing, the problem being of course it would be the last card series before the new API... why does not money grow on trees?

I've already had one of those.

It is strange to see ATI using the name of a previous Nvidia based card in their advertising, isn't it?

So what is X1K ? is it just the name of the new range ie X1... X1300/X1700/X1800 ?

Velocity was a brand of STB video cards.
Rampage was the "revolution" that 3Dfx wanted to release. (but never did, so Rampage is dead).
3Dfx bought STB.
Winner.

X1K came before Y2K

"Velocity" was trade-mark of STB and it wasn't associated only with nVidia-based products.

But he didn't say Velocity. Baron said Velocity 128, which is the Riva 128 chipset, which is exclusively Nvidia.

No its got extreme pipes. Each pipe shares resources to process a whole quad. It can process 16 quads at once. That is the reason they need a 512bit internal bus with a ring buffer. ;)

And then Nvidia bought 3DFX, which brings us full circle, back to ATI using a name that belongs to Nvidia.

Well, The Register sez R520 has unified shaders. Those're good for physics, right?

(;) * X1k)
