The Witcher 3 : Wild Hunt ! [XO, PS4, NX, PS5, XBSX|S, PC]

You mean the expansion is listed as free or the game and expansion are listed as free? as in: you can get the game for free?

Anyway its listed as 5000 yen for the game and 3000 yen for the expansion in Japan so unfortunately not the whole of asia ;)

Damien Monnier (Senior Game Designer) 30 minute presentation from EGX 2014.

Obviously old but an interesting (to me) touch of the mechanics like abandoned village population, dead bodies rotting and attracting nasty things, your interactions with seemingly insignificant NPCs can be impactful later if they become important or influential NPCs, why saving kittens may be a bad thing, kitten armageddon, the importance of people you shagged in previous games and unpredictable branching consequences and why the game won't hold you hand or stop you killing yourself.

^yup, that one is very fun to watch. Had seen it a few months back.
I have much catching up to do  I wasn't really interested in the Witcher 3 until very recently so now I'm consuming all the content I can. Speaking of Witch (gettit?) here's Damien Monnier again in an interview with Game Trailers from the past day or so. This looks to be about an hour long and he's currently explaining how one of the devs just secretly sneaked in hair/beard growth.

Sneaky, lazy devs! :runaway:

EDIT: Cannot recommend the Twitch stream - after a little Witcher 3 talk they've spent the last 15 minutes talking about Mortal Kombat, which obviously is very important when you have the Witcher 3's Senior Game Designer on your show. WTF, GameTrailers!

EDIT2: 25 minutes in and they've remembered they have the Witcher 3 guy on the show. Now let's talk about Dark Souls. :runaway:

EDIT3: Okay the last 20-25 minutes is entirely Witcher 3 Q&A and ends with some epic discussion on why there are no dicks in the game: extra vertices to render and the animation team not wanting to have to animating dicks!

this game looks like will be a labor of love, genuine developer passion. With the corporation encompass, encourage, support it. Instead of forcing them to follows corporate view/agenda.

now to get on PC or PS4 -___-

@ToTTenTranz
and it means the game will be "just works" for physical buyer. No need for forced day-1 update :D

please dont be rockstar

The game has gone gold, over a month before release.
Maybe this means early players won't be beta testing it for the first month :)

Heh, all games go gold around that time unless they are Digital Download only. It's due to the need for physical packaging and distribution. Chances are they are still working on the game and that there may be a day 1 patch.

One thing I'm sad about is that when the game was PC only, you would get a significant graphics upgrade and content update after about 6-12 months for free. It appears that now that it is on console as well, that they will be charging for those updates. :(

Regards,
SB

They've said they want to avoid a day 1 patch if at all possible because they know there are Witcher fans who aren't always connected. This was in direct response to the increasingly common massive day 1 patches like the 20Gb Master Chief Collection patch.

During the GameTrailers interview they said they're currently working on the expansions.

Also my greatest worry. W2 combat was extremely clunky, but this looks like it has tighter controls.
A lot of people have played this now and the combat system is often described as being somewhere between Assassin's Creed and Arkham Knight. Swordplay is generally described as being very fluid, as are ranged and magical attacks. Many have said the dodge and counter system are tricky to master but counter systems in general, other than AC, are often described as being tricky. I think it's generally a case of learning the visual cues and mastering then over time.

Just looking at videos of Witcher 2 and Witcher 3 and watching the man in action, the latest game looks more flowing and fluid.

agreed, at least from watching the gameplay videos is looks like it reads. Luckily it's on GOLD sale this week.... I really should finish Pillars before starting this one though lol. And I really should start programming my own game, lol but this game looks devilishly good.

My main concern was the same animations over and over again. It looks like that's still the case. Several videos have shown him doing the same turnaround slash. It has got to have variety at least rivaling Shadow of Mordor in order for me to consider it a step up from W2.

From http://www.pcgamer.com/the-witcher-...xpect-the-game-to-look-way-better-on-release/

We wanted to make the combat more responsive, so we raised the number of combat animations like five times," said Michal Gilewski, CD Projekt's Head of Marketing. "It was around 20 something in The Witcher 2 and now we have over 90 different sequences of actions and dodges, so it makes the fight more fluid, but it looks amazing."

I talked to Gilewski along with The Witcher 3's lead programmer, Grzegorz Mocarski, after the demo. Mocarski added that Geralt now has two different dodge moves. "We're still working on it, but right now you can already see...one is the dodge move, the other is the pirouette," he said. "This time you're having many possibilities for the fights as well. You've got signs, swords, crossbows, bombs, different moves you can use. Not all features will work in all situations. We wanted to give a little more control to the player and make the fight a little more tactical."

No Shadow of Mordor but an improvement over Witcher 2. It's not a fighting game like Shadow of Mordor, it's an RPG with fighting.

We don't know if those 90 animations include just sword animations or ALL the possible combination of weapons and magic animations.. probably the latter. In which case, I'd still be left with a handful of sword animations.

Also, SoM isn't a fighting game.. and neither is W3 a true RPG.. :) We have Pillars of Eternity for that.

Sorry, I keep forgetting SoM is an Orc terror simulator! Still not finished it. Maybe today.
