The phone OS bickering thread

If Samsung released one smartphone a year I doubt people will be standing in line to get the new model regardless if the new model was compelling or not. Samsung just doesn't have that cool factor nor do their phones. I've seen all the various Android phones out there, but none of them seem to have that "I've gotta get that phone right now" factor.
If Samsung released one smartphone per year you bet there would be people standing inline to get one. Samsung also have brand-loyal buyers, maybe not as many as Apple has concerning phones, but imagine the event if Samsung just released one new TV model a year.

Samsung is of course also lacking a jesus-like carismatic leader that can build a hype of such epic proportions that people will keep on buying a malfunctioning phone even after its flaw has been revealed.

A friend of mine was comparing the iPhone phenomena to a religous crowd and I think it is a pretty valid comparison. Talking about "hotness" instead of looking at the hard facts is just a sign of this.

The Sony PSP thing will be another blow to Apple, Apple needs to get Nintendo on board and add some kind of controls that make sense.

I hope that Apple will do something pro-active, innovate more and drop their arrogance.
I doubt Apple and Nintendo will partner, they are two very succesful companies on their own, they will likely remain competitors.

It will be interesting to see if Apple will be forced to sub-license the iOS to defend their current market share. The most expensive computer I´ve ever owned was a Macintosh I bought back in 1991, it was a great product. However, instead of expanding the market Apple prefered a high-margin niche and left the mass-market to Microsoft, maybe we are watching the same scenario unfold again but with Android replacing Windows. I am so lucky I sold that computer quickly and got most of the money back, I later used them to buy a high speced PC.

Apple will never license either the MAC OS nor the iOS. Imho they don´t need to in order to stay alive and succesfull, the only thing i am asking for is some common f***ing sense. I like my Macbook Pro (note, i don´t love it) i enjoyed my iPOD Touch when it still was fresh (hated the iPod part though). But i have a hard time with the arrogance that is rooted in the "we know better attitude" and "we will take care of you" and the worst "we are the best" when it´s all a screaming lie. It´s making me turn towards apple instead of supporting them, like i used to.

Lol forget the console war we now have the phone os war.
I think ill go for the w7mobile just because it has xbox live support and achievements.

It seems to be a lot of missunderstanding about the Android platform.

This is not an issue for me, but I read up on it and there seemed to have been some bugs a year ago that have been fixed by now. There are also a number of third part cleints to choose from.

Last time I checked (1 mont ago) there were still no non-buggy standalone clients and the built-in used an ISP relay. Got a link?

What phones are you talking about? If you buy a new phone just make sure it works where you plan to use it.

That's just it, I need one that work in Japan, Korea, China and all over the EU.

There sure is, this is from April this year:
"The top three Android devices in the US are the Motorola Droid, the HTC G1, and the Motorola CLIQ. All have keyboards."
And there have been a few new ones released since then. Actually the smallest Android phone in the world right now, the SE Xperia 10 Mini (the one I got) has a Pro model with a slide-out keyboard.

I hate sliders. I use one-handed typing to go between planes at airports. Sliders don't work for this.

You can pre-load maps so you can use the GPS even where there is no network at all.

That's about time! You can't do this with google maps on any other platform. That's why I like nokia's map program.
