The Order: 1886

I'd like a Mass Effect style RPG set in this universe.
Flying aboot on an Airship, various location around the British Empire, exotic creatures, levelling up weapons, branching story.
You know the kind of thing.

Not to mention a good tactical combat with your fellow knights using various weapons, Tesla's gadgets, and of course magic; facing all the classical creatures from gothic horror; and meeting all kinds of legendary people, not only from Victorian London but - thanks to that blackwater thing - anyone else from all the way back to King Arthur's age. And ME's storytelling was cinematic enough as well.

Too bad it would cost at least twice as much as this game did...

I think the most disappointing takeaway from a "cinematic" game is general complaints about the quality of the writing throughout, and the ending. If you're going to make a game that plays like a movie, it had better have good characters and a good story. Everyone universally praises the basic premise of the story, but the execution is almost universally criticized.

Game is preloaded on my PS4, but I won't have strength to play it today [curse you common cold!]. But tomorrow will be a good day. :)

Aaaaaaah, I have mental energy and don't feel sick at all...put I am not at home :(

24 more hours...hopefully Diablo 3 doesn't distract me!

I'll get it tomorrow but I work late.

I'll play it Saturday afternoon so I can crank up the volume and play it the way it's meant to be. (On a 135" 2.35 screen, and a 2000W calibrated wall of sound)
If the game sucks I won't even notice, I'll compensate by raising the volume more... and more... until sheer sound pressure forces me to be entertained.

I look forward to seeing this game in "real life", but it will not be a full price, not because it is short, but because there is a real risk of not really being into this type of game. But i would really like to see the powerplay they put on with the graphics.
One thing that surprised me, it seems a tad cheaper than other games, around $10 on the EU store compared to other biggies.

Considering nobody is talking about it, and we're all busy deconstructing the reviews... Yes.

So... uh... does it suck?

No it not sucks. It is mixed. The 20, 40 or 50/100 are stupid and are disrespectful for a developer doing a correct job but it is not a 95 game. I think it is a 70/75 games.

The visual part is gorgeous no jaggies, AF is good. The materials are great. Lighting is very good. My only complaint is the facial animation, I prefer Infamous or better Naughty Dog work. The face are not as good as the other part of the visual. Music and sound are good. Animation is good and framerate smooth. The story is good for the moment only chapter 2. I think it is the best looking console game for the moment. Black bar is not a problem and FOV is good.

The TPS part is correct not as good as TLOU or Uncharted but not some piece of shit. But QTE are annoying because you never know when they begin and the sequence are disjointed. You need to press a button after there is a serie of animation with different duration (1,2,3 seconds never now) and after you need again to press a new button and the timing is fast and it is insta fail.

Another suprising thing there is no death animation. It quickly go to a black screen and restart at the beginning of the QTE.

Yeah, I don't believe it's a good thing to write a story that depends too much on you also playing the rest of, say, a trilogy. It's not very satisfying.

Also the quick fade to black instead of a death animation seems to suggest they realised a bit late that the QTEs were annoying, so they made the restarting faster. I prefer my QTEs optional, get slightly better results if you manage to hit them, but the game continues if you don't, but that's more expensive to do I guess. Wonder if the difficulty levels make any difference at all.

Production values for this game seem to be as universally praised as the gameplay is considered to be mediocre and shallow (but not broken). It won't really stand the test of time then, will still be remembered for its looks in the future, but not played much I suppose.

I am really curious to play it though.

Not every game must be an open-world sandbox where you can get lost within thousands of irrelevant sidequests, mining and harvesting flowers.

Mass Effect and Skyrim are great, but so is Spec Ops: The Line and Max Payne. And quite honestly: screw whoever thinks Spec Ops The Line shouldn't exist.
IMO there's a time/place and most of all a market for both kinds.
People complaining about "all games nowadays are too linear" probably don't play much games at all lately.
We've had Skyrim, Fallout 3/New Vegas, Deus Ex HR, whole Assassin's Creed series, Dishonored, GTA, Bioshock series etc.
And many of these are first-person-shooters.
That picture of an FPS map then&now is stupid to use in 2015. The only games where that applies are Battlefield and COH, and we all know those are essentially multiplayer games with a small campaign as an extra for newbies to get their hands around the controls.

I get that people are bothered by the cliffhanger (and apparently lazy) ending. I also get that people complain about it being rather short.
But someone who's decided they hate games with a linear story probably shouldn't be reviewing it in the first place.
I know I would refuse myself from reviewing FIFA 15 or a Dress-my-Barbie game. What's the point in forcing myself to play a game I know I'll hate playing just to write about how I hated playing it?
