On the Media Molecule site Kenny, the LBP audio geezer, posted a piano vid and we discussed a little bit about an old-style tracker, which he said he had already made. IMO the only difficultly would be assigning pitch in an easy way without needing one block per note per sound. A machine could dispense notes when a button is pressed. Other controls could scroll the song (conveyor/machine).

you need one speaker per note, they can go anywhere they don't have a massive range tho so the wiring job for speakers to fill a level could be a lot of work. you need an emiter for each note in a piece which could be alot of work. you also need to figure out which block to emite and into which track since one track can only handle 8 notes.

hmm i was doing some fixes to my level and now can't publish it. also when i deleted one it said that it couldn't be deleted at this time but it isn't in my published levels anymore.

edit: okay got it working now. custom music engine v1.1 is now up if any one wants to check it out.

Thanks for the info. It doesn't sound very feasible to me, then, and a time waster. We would need an editor like the one included in Guitar Hero World Tour. But I'm asking for too much here.

I edited my previous post because it sounded imperative, and someone would be mad at me because it sounded like I was asking someone to do the work for me.

After spending about 5 hours with it today, I'd have to say, content creation means 0 to me and it'd be fun to play a user made level on occasion but it's the actual single player I want to know about. Is there a story of any sort and how many levels? I'll be strictly looking for that feedback in the reviews. I'm basically looking for SMG level platforming and single player.

The game itself is rather cute with lots of options but I'm not the type to sit there and make a level in any game, ever. I just like to play the game. User made levels are cool. I played Heist 1 and Hiest 2. Both were good but still can't hold a candle to the actual game levels in terms of presentation. I'm sure some nutjobs will put even more effort in! but still that's a crap shoot.

One weird thing I noticed. There seems to be some sort of motion blur and it's really distracting once I noticed it. It's not resolution loss on the set.

I agree. I completely have no aspirations to make any levels. I didn't even look into the My Moon or whatever it is called.

My girlfriend, however, is completely different. Apart from falling in love with the characters, the idea of creating levels has got her hooked. She cannot wait to make her own levels.

The moral of the story is this : If you won't someone else will. And if "someone else" is a huge enough pool of people, some amazing things will happen.

No surprise! The review looks great also, I know we don't do scans but anyway (and I tend to buy either this mag or the Dutch version for the BD cover discs anyway) ... and it's given me some great ideas too! I noticed for instance you can do stained glass! Someone is going to make some wonderful stuff with that!

I toyed around with it to see if it worked as I thought, and it does - you can take glass, and then use any color texture on it, and it will be trasnparent with that color! Amazing. I created a stone wall with a stained glass window in six colors, and a table with two candles on it behind it and my textured birdie, and Sackboy can still walk in there and do stuff like walk past the table, jump on it, etc. My goodness.

EDIT: youtubed it, whipped together in a few minutes, someone could (and probably will!) create art with this. ;):

Also, from the review it is clear that MM can also put fully formed and beautiful 'proper' 3d objects in there ... lots of beautiful examples to be seen. If they give that power to users too eventually (maybe through PC support, or some additional object editor), then wow, that's going to allow for truly georgeous stuff ... and things look so great already. ;)

I'm inclined to think that if a magazine won't give LBP a 10/10, they don't have a soul. But I'm sure there'll be one or two out there who won't give it a 10/10 out of principle. ;)

EDIT: someone made a framework for a side scrolling shoot-em-up:

Ha ha, don't play the soul card. Reviewers will do what they usually do.

I left my PS3 at home this week. My wife called me at work to learn LBP because the kid wants to watch her play. (He was screaming in the background while I spoke with her). I laughed because she firmly believes that gaming is an absolute waste of time (since Halo 2).

Glad someone else can force her play.

EDIT: Wait a minute, I skimmed through your post too fast. Just realized the candles, birdie and stained glass window are all created by you. Arwin, you don't look like a technical guy to me. You look more like an art guy.

Also  at the shmup level. That's awesome !

I think it's a stroke of genius to allow you to copy any lever, whether user made or media olecules, into your moon...and see how it works. Then you can mess around with it :)

Everything in the game can be given to players...and will be. So if MM use it, you can use it too. They want to inspire you, not limit you.

And I'd really like that candle :) Can you share it with me?

Is there a party system or something in the game? where a group of friends can go from level to level together and have fun , like MGO !
That would be cool to have!

And can someone please make a fireball spewing gun :p ! Lets have the Boss Battles !!!

Yes ! You can form a party of (up to) 4. And you can join a game mid-session.

You can also see all your friends within the game (No need to go into in-game XMB), plus what they have achieved in the game (on-the-fly).

So, the game looks up my friend list and incorporates it in-game? Thats cool! (I think HAZE had that )
But I can have new friends inside the game? or is it completely tied to my friend list, as in, a guy has to be in my friend list to be in my LBP friend's list? Like I make a friend while playing the game, can I add him in my LBP friends list ? or does he get added in my PSn list automatically too.?

Base quaetion: Is the LBP list and PSN list same or different?

Hm not sure. PSN friends list is definately in there...the implementation is pretty rad. You just press Start and invite whoever you want into the game/pod (pod is the meeting place where you can dress up and talk lol). Ten you can look at their published levels and their hearted levels. If they achieve a score in a game you'll be notified at the top of the screen, and in the corner where it says your score in the game, it'll show underneath the person on your friends list with the score just above yours - so you have a target :)

Haven't tried adding a stranger...I don't play with them :D But if it was just friends list, you could look in the PSN "friends met" and just add them.

PSN list is the same as the LBP list. It's just presented differently in the game, which is really cool by the way.

Here's one of the pro level designers at work ... neat stuff in there!

I also liked the tip on neogaf that you can use r1, r2 and up/down while glueing something to determine to which plane you glue things.

Well there's l1/l2 AND r2/21

And are you going to share that candle with me? :)
