hope this hasn't been mentioned already...

Sony marketing VP Peter Dille notes that now that the Playstation Network will be offering web browsing and free downloads, the DVD has become redundant. The last OPM issue will be dated for January.

When I read that I was somewhat conflicted.
On the one hand, I don't see the PR advantage in this move, I don't see how it's good for users. On the other, the writing is already on the wall, online reviews + downloads are a better business model....

They are shutting down Official Playstation Magazine?
Screw the demo disk, i dont need one. Just leave the magazine up 'n' running...

Nominally a propaganda organ, OPM was nevertheless respected because of the arm's length Sony kept from the editors, resulting in incidents such as one editor saying she wouldn't buy a PS3 this November.
Yeah, i've listened that podcast :)

The more I think about this, the less sense it makes.

The majority of the magazines audience will still be after PS2 demos, etc. And what about those people without broadband.

I can't help wonder if it's either some internal politic thing (like the editor stating she wouldn't buy a ps3 a while ago), or maybe it's a hardware thing (maybe PS3 is setup so games/demos may only run off bluray or the hdd?)

it's strange.
