The GT5 expectation thread (including preview titles)*

I wont be surprised if PD did some Voodoo magic & Ray Tracing shit in their Photo mode.
But anyways if those are the kind of visuals we should expect to see in next gen racers...then I cant wait to see this gen get over :D

It is GT5 not the Prologue so you never know. I'm guessing these are from the replays.

I am assuming that Polyphony does more than just graphics for these 800-1000 cars. Do they all drive the same ? Each and everyone of them ? If there are incremental technical work for each (family of) car, the workload may overflow and push other features back..

Forgot about that :)

Ha ha, yes... tall order. Like I said, I am not a racing game fan and my expectation may likely be off as a result. Nonetheless I'd imagine 800-1000 cars is a boatload of work.

I expect photo-mode to be a fair few notches up from this, but I'm not sure - the resolution seems to be 1600x900, which is a strange resolution. So it could still be photo mode.

Originals are 1920x1080 and downsampled from ultra res. Well maybe photomode if it downsamples.

I am actually fine with heavy damage on premium cars & lesser damage on others.

What I am disappointed to know is that GT5 wont be having Night races or any Weather effects...if they didnt wanted to do this then why did they started to talk about it :|

Do you have any link?

More context for gamespot's Polyphony interview:
http://www.gtplanet.net/polyphony-digital-welcomes-press-interviews-begin/

Since Kazunori Yamauchi announced the Japanese release date on Thursday, the news has been met with a wide range of emotions, from elation, relief, to anger. The drama forming around Gran Turismo 5 is boiling over like never before, and all eyes will be on Yamauchi’s next interviews. Fortunately, we won’t have to wait long, as Polyphony Digital has welcomed several groups of journalists over to their studios for tours, taking questions along the way. One site, GameSpot, is taking a bold move by actually inviting their readers to recommendquestions for Yamauchi-san – you can take advantage of the opportunity by leaving a note in their comments right here.

GameSpot’s interview is expected to be published on Saturday (September 26), though other interviews will not be revealed until Monday.

Sounds like Gamespot is going to interview Kazunori and publish the article on the same day.

First, there is no photomode in GT5P AFAIK.
If you're asking if the car selection is rendering the same way as in-game and/or replay mode, I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I think the the car selection screen is rendering at 1920x1080 with no AA while in-game/replay renders at 1280x1080 2xAA (60Hz in-game, 30Hz replay). Not sure how the car selection screen is rendered in 720p mode though.

Quoted from the Rendering Resolutions stick:
GT5 Prologue (demo) = 1080p mode is 1280x1080 (2xAA) in-game while the garage/pit/showrooms are 1920x1080 with no AA. 720p mode is 1280x720 (4xAA)

Can anyone tell me if in GT5:p the models used in the car selection menu are used either in-game and if perhaps for replays and photo mode?

that's all i know, the cars in GT5 still look pretty high though.

No , I wasn't talking about IQ differences, i was talking about whether the car models in the selection screen are swapped for a lower poly one for races (and what models do replays use).

Thats the thing. People see cars from a distance and think it actually has 1m/200k polys. However in reality it is drastically less.

Here is the rim at clsoe range...

even closer...

And textures.

So GT5 is also using drastically higher poly models for the car selection/showroom/pit screens compared to even the highest LOD model (ie. when the camera is really close) that features in race replays?
