it seems to me, that we have one of the best generations of gaming coming up. If we look at the last gen and compare to next gen, it looks like every system is much more well thought out.
ps2= was a system created with no enemy or competition. Sony didn't have to worry about Sega or Nintendo, and Microsoft wasn't in the game yet. It seemed rushed with a horrible launch. A system that was a nightmare for developers, etc.
ps3= Sony can now see their enemy. they have Microsoft to push them. they now have Live to push them to innovate with their own online service. They are also thinking more about development and making games easier to make, etc.
xbox= was a quick and dirty system, not created for profit but simply to slow Sony down. it was cut short with a 4 year life cycle. Much of the time was used trying to establish franchises, franchises that the competition has had for years.
xbox 360= a system that fully realizes online and has the ability to make Microsoft some money. Better CPU and Graphics chip created specifically for gaming. Has franchises to work from and a good 5 - 6 years to grow.
GC = A system launched in between management changes. A system with no innovation and was basically a less functional ps2 or xbox. Bad marketing, bad design, etc.
Revolution = Nintendo has realized that they can't compete against the big 2. they have now settled in to a niche market that puts unique gameplay above all. A system with a cheaper price point but also an innovative input device.
it seems that each company has settled into a more specific market with better chances for profit. Add blu-ray, HD-DVD, online fully realized with each company and HD TV's into the mix and things get interesting.
So are we in for 5 years of gaming glory or am i just crazy?
