Well here's the program:

It was earlier today.

Brendan McNamara, of Team Bondi was also talking ("Using Actors in Video Games"). Wonder if he previewed any of their work.

Ah, neat, I always thought the product concept behind The Getaway was brilliant, but I saw it as a way of making things cheaper, not more expensive.

Imagine a next-gen model of the actor who portrayed Max Payne in MP2 for some Max Payne game. I thought about this at work and was getting very giddy at the possibilites.

Factor5 is using similar scanners used to scan in CG models of humans for The Matrix and other movies, to scan in their models for Lair. I wonder if Team Bondi are doing something similar (at least for getting an initial model, before manipulating it for realtime use)?

What is Team Bondi?

Team Bondi is a new dev house based in Australia setup up by Brendan McNamara - former Team Soho SCEE (The Getaway), he also took a bunch of his Team Soho colleagues with him to concentrate on Playstation 3 development. They've signed a deal with Sony America to produce three titles, the first being L.A Noire.

Website: www.teambondi.com

The team working on the game will be 100 strong

The team is "targeting the most challenging character AI ever seen in a video game", with the AI system "simulating 200+ real-world agents for a real time, single player, story-focused game".

Drats, beaten to the punch...

A new australian dev house created by B.McNamara, the producer of The Getaway at SCEE Team Soho (Now, Team London, or something). And they're working on a big budget PS3 game for SCEA.

Oh shi.... I mean shoot. Oh I heard about that. Yes I must pay attention to his speech now. Please somebody needs to get this info after he delivers it. I've been wondering what they have brewing for the PS3 and how he views making his next game.

anyone seem the motorstorm report

Was looking at the motor storm ps3 video. The developer states that clip shown was all realtime....would be nice to see more of this game.

Where is this said? I didn't think they had commented on the vid at all. And Edge magazine seems pretty certain it was all prerendered CG, even pointing at the CG house that produced it.

Also, I don't see anything to do with MotorStorm at the AGDC? :confused

Check out the trailer for motor storm on http://www.control-freaks.tv [click on the motor storm clip]. The CEO of Evolution Studios states that it is realtime.

Interesting, thanks very much indeed. Hmm..not sure what to make of all that. The reporter adds more detail, but Kenwright's comment comment wasn't quite as explicit as it could have been ("that was all faithful", "that was all ps3"). I'd prefer if he said flat out, himself, that it was running in realtime on PS3 (might be picky, but..).

I mean that said, I think what was shown in the vid will be pretty much achievable next-gen - but it was definitely a step beyond what you might have expected early on, particularly in the physics department. And Edge's reporting on it was fairly persuasive that it was all just a CG mockup by an external company..

I guess and hope we'll find out for sure soon! It'd be quite something if that were indeed the quality we'll be getting.

That's the first comment out of Evolution Studios since E3...

I'm still waiting for the Team Bondi clip to go up...

I find it a bit hard to believe it's real-time but I just had another look at the screenshots over at IGN.

Are those jaggies around the windshield....?

There is aliasing there, for sure, but I think people figured it was rendered like that for "authenticity". In isolation, a lot of it seems quite achievable, but in motion, all of it together seems to be setting a really high bar.

The motion blur and partical effects are so dramatic that it hides the geomatry and texture detail. Looking at it closer poly counts and textures don't seem that high. Obveously like other demos the animations are caned, even the physics animations might not be caculated in real time.

If it was rendered, they must have added some clipping problems too for "authenticity" (motorbike's front tyre). I just wondered, could the mud splatter be some kind of particle effect?
