Was looking at the motor storm ps3 video. The developer states that clip shown was all realtime....would be nice to see more of this game.
I dont believe it.Its too good to be true :p

"that was all faithful"

that makes me think it's not rendered in the game engine, if a developer had a demo that good, I feel they would come out and say it is realtime, every team that these demo's came from all use the "to spec" or "faithful" lines.

that and they are miles ahead of everything that is proven realtime

Well I guess so far we have Motorstorm real-time without A.I. and Game logic turned on. I can't wait until the PS3 comes out. I wonder when this game will actually come out. Does anybody know?

"Team Bondi is an equal opportunity employer and will hire people from any part of the world, of any racial or religious persuasion as long as they are intelligent, enthusiastic and committed to the future of video games and not the past."

That's a weird way to phrase it. I wonder what that's all about?

"you won't believe what they've managed to achieve so far!"

That quote is from a recent interview with Evolution Studios Matt Southern referring to MotorStorm. :p

I expect it playable soon, maybe at the up and coming CES in Vegas...

I don't see why not. Looks very doable to me.

I have complete faith Evolution Studios are going to roll out something killer for PS3 as they're an excellent developer, but I'll eat my Trinitron if they end up approaching the level of detail in that trailer. Its not necessarily the vehicle models or terrain that seem out of this world. Its how natural everything moved, broke apart, deformed, animated etc. The malleability is on a whole other level compared to what we've seen before. Not to mention the amazingly realistic smoke, fire, debris, and mud splatter effects being thrown around. Thats what makes it look so unbelievable.

Id love to see it happen, I mean that level of interaction, exaggerated realism and immersiveness is the idea in my head of what a truly next generation jump in gaming would be like. It just seems like something unlikely to be achieved, especially this early in development.

They stated that game logic and AI were disabled for the video. What exactly does game logic mean? and would disabling game logic and AI detract from the final vision of Motorstorm that was shown at E3?

Possible reasons:
* The AI code and a few other game specific logic code are still buggy (no pun intended), thus crashing (or slowing down) the Alpha Dev-Kits. Making it almost impossible too record some nice scripted game footage.
* The Alpha Dev-Kits aren’t up to snuff (yet) when running “everythingâ€￾ or it can be a combination of the two reasons.

I agree. Watching the video it just seems impossible to expect ALL those elements to come together like that in the actual game.

Of all the E3 videos I think Motorstorm was easily the most impressive (yes even more than Killzone). The reason I think it hasn't recieved the level of attention of Killzone is because when I saw it my mind immediately said "pre-rendered CGI" - the notion of it being realtime or ingame wasn't even there so it was dismissed.

Killzone on the other hand had the feel that "yes, this is what next-gen COULD look like" so more people were inclined to believe it was possibly real and hence all the attention.

This makes me all the more impatient to see real PS3 games.

I still don't understand what the middle ground for some people have for next-gen games. Games in 2005 will look different than games that are released in late 2006 or 2007. What do people expect games to look like in 2008 or 2009?

Do some of you think that Gears of War is the best that we will get next gen? If not then how close to Motorstorm or Killzone will we get?

In shots, the "static" render quality seems fairly achievable I suppose (although the lighting looks really really good, and that makes me suspicious), but as others have said, it's the whole package in motion, and particularly the physics, that push it really really high. If you watch the video, it's just crazy. I guess it's a really good example of physics making things look a whole lot better. I'll be surprised and exceptionally impressed if we see that level in a first-gen PS3 game. If they came close, it'd be impressive as is! But I'm putting my "doubting hat" on for now.

I have always beleived that motor storm was RT anyway, Evolution Studios are a very talented bunch of people, there WRC games for PS2 were out of this world.

When you consider there pushin 12,000 polys per car and then factor in the draw distance it is quite amazing seeing it running. Infact i cant think of one racing game that has a draw distance as big as the one in wrc 3. In terms of there ability i would put them in the same league as Naugty Dog.

I just watched the Motorstorm vid and I did notice that the response from the interviewee wasn't that cut-and-dry. He didn't say 'this is realtime in-game footage' but 'everything you saw there is PS3'. The narration over the top said AI etc was disabled but I don't know where that info came from. It was nice to hear the guy talking up nVidia's contribution to the toolset though.

The reason I think it looks so unbelievable is the scripted'ness of the video. Although, while watching the video, did some of you notice generic 3rd person camera views?

Id say its the lighting that makes it loook so real.
