Surprised this news has not had more traction but this is the closest thread I think to where it should be:
AMD files patent infringement against LG, MediaTek, Visio, and some others.
https://www.techpowerup.com/230260/amd-files-patent-infringement-complaint-against-lg-vizio-others

They are looking for a limited exclusion followed by a more permanent cease-desist.
Here is a copy of the actual filing: http://www.itcblog.com/images/amdcomplaint.pdf
Ironic that Nvidia makes a lot of news-waves with their patent infringements but this does not even register with most even if (big if for it to be 100%) it may have a more solid case.
Cheers

Anandtech has a nice article on the AMD patent infringement: http://www.anandtech.com/show/11101/amd-files-patent-complaint-against-mediatek-lg-vizio
Ryan, would be nice if you follow it up with the ZiiLabs infringement that was 1-2 weeks earlier, this is against AMD and a quite a few others: http://www.itcblog.com/ziilabs-files-new-337-complaint-regarding-certain-graphics-processors

You do realize that the rumors of Apple using Zen APUs could just aswell be false?

Yes, it could.
I just find it to be a tad more believable than seeing Kaby Lake + AMD GPU MCMs in macbooks.

NV enjoyed a slight increase (0.3%) in market share over AMD in Q4:

I can see the iMac moving to an APU (Greenland), as well as their notebooks (Raven Ridge). Less PCB real estate and more effective cooling.

Is it possible the third AMD chip win is a custom APU for Apple? Apple CPU cores attached to a Radeon gpu. That would be their base model with a discrete GPU for heavy lifting for some.

The reports say "semi-custom". I believe mixing an AMD GPU with an apple-designed ARM CPU would mean a "full custom" design.
But I may be wrong.

Interesting, AMD managed to stay far more competitive during the Holiday quarter than I expected. I believe previously I had been guessing that Nvidia would get back to around 75% or so market share, regaining a lot of lost ground. But that guess was way off.

Both IHVs were able to increase their shipments which is good for the market, and good for their AIB partners.

That is only one side of the story. When drawing conclusions about that you have to consider pricing and if you compare pricing between the 1060 and the RX480 and RX470 over the past 3 to 6 months it is obvious, that AMD hat to lower pricing quite significantly and way more than Nvidia while still using more resources on the product itsself. In the end they tried to maintain market share at the expense of revenue and income.

You mean the inflated price of the 470/480 due to supply shortage and demand has been slowly returning close to MSRP?

The 4 gb versions are under 200 bucks now its been like that for a few months now. 8gb, under 240 but these are all overclocked versions. Sale, rebates.....

Yep, you're right. It's still only just getting below MSRP of $200/$239 given how long they've been out. One would hope they were able to reap some profits from the for 6 months or so of release.

If we compare MSRP to pricing, it seems the 1060 has actually dropped more overall than the 480. So I'm not sure what either of these facts are telling us other than the usual price drops over time.

Good point, so overall, pricing just seems to be dropping due to over all drop of demand after launch, normal process.

That's not all that important in comparing those two. As has been mentioned, both cards are still similarly priced relative to their MSRP. IE - the lower prices on Rx4xx aren't due to the launch of GTX 1060.

What is relevant, however, is that NVidia is pretty much uncontested in the high end and enthusiast sectors. That means their revenue, profits, and margins are through the roof relative to their shipping volume. This is clearly seen from last quarter's financial reports when compared to last quarter's shipment reports.
