I was curious if anyone knew much about how 3D characters and general models have been textured in CG films past and present.
Perhaps this is a strange question only I'm curious about the use of normal mapping and its relevance to a CG film, even though normal mapping was specifically created for games.
I've looked at information on the working processes of various high-profile CG movies such as Shrek 2 and The Lord of the Rings trilogy and can never seem to find much if any information on the texturing process.
I'm working on a short 3D animation and obviously I want it to look good so I'm focussing on the texturing to achieve this as best I can.
Any supporting knowledge or comments would be greatly appreciated
