Technology behind AJAX is patented by Morfik

I honestly doubt that Morfik would uphold such a patent but it makes me think about why could something in such large use be patented? It should automatically have been moved into public domain.

They do not claim patent over all of AJAX, just compiling from an OO-source (Java/C#/Etc) into AJAX.
