Summer camp or a pool?

I'm trying to decide if I should enroll my kids in some programs for the summer or just buy a little pool and spend the summer playing in it and teaching the kids how to ride a bike. :|

My son is going to be 7 a week from Sunday, and my daughter is 4; which do you think?

(Yes, this is a double-post of one I put up at EB before John says anything...but I figure I'll get two very different sets of input this way. ;) )

Get the little buggers out of the house for a few hours every day, if not for a protracted length of time. :D

You'll be a lot more sane for it. My mom, aunts, and uncles dumped us kids on our grandparents in WVA every summer for the first 15 years of our lives. My grandparents had 8 kids (5 boys, 3 girls) so we had a lot of people in our generation. hehe. Our parents tell us all the time how much it was a joy to see us out of their hair for a few months. :p

The puppies went home two days ago, their rightful father and owner picked them up out of the blue and it kind of crushed me a bit.

We're going for the pool for sure now, we found some bloody great deals at Walmart and are now looking to go a leetle nuts and really spoil the kids. 8)

huh? So u're not the real father?! Oh my god this is like watching ER but without the hospital and the blood!

No, Rudy and Lucy were a brother/sister 10 year old lab puppies that belong to a buddy of mine that I was watching "for 30-90 days" for the last half year or so....but he's finally got his life back together and he came and finally got his puppies back. :( (I should be glad since the puppies and him are so happy, but I got damned attached to 'em and I'm going thru seperation withdrawal. :( )

The kids are most definately mine, they even got little notches in their left ear just like I do and if I had ANY doubt about their lineage their attitudes/sense-o-humor-and-mischeviousness would leave me no room to doubt. ;)

Nope, the labs weren't mine. I was just taking care of them because I didn't think they deserved to suffer for a situation that wasn't of their making. (Hey, the dogs have been friends of mine for years. I watch out for my friends!)

On a happy note my own 11 year old shollie (shepard/collie mix) Beanie is happy as hell they're gone and my brother/sister kitties Chance & Buttercup have been tearing up the house having a blast since the labs are gone.

I'm actually a bit relieved too, it's been a bit too much and I just haven't had any time/privacy....the dogs followed me EVERYWHERE! (Yeah, and I loved it...shut up! )

Those inflatey toys can get holes and still work just fine Russ, they're the nylon type that are connected to a blower so it just keeps inflating itself constantly. (It has holes built into it just to keep it from over-inflating itself, it's DESIGNED to leak air. ;) )

Also, the blower tube apeture is conveniently identical to the blowhole in the side of my PC.... :devilish:

But wouldn't the labs have a problem climbing the ladder at the back of that slide anyway? ;)

And I don't think it's appropriate to give your kids inflatable toys with holes. Save them that "education" for later, and preferably don't do the education that way.

One of them wouldn't have, Roo-roo was a freaking gymnast of a puppy!

Ha-ha-ha. :p

Getting a pool for sure, my son & wife are going to go out to get him a haircut and see what the local stores got in stock and they'll decide from there. :)

digitalwanderer,

Well I've only been reading Beyond3D since last August (everyday since infact) but If there is one constant it's what a bloody good parient you obviously are.

I haven't been that great the last few months, it's been a lot harder to do stuff since I had the puppies around to worry about too.

But now I should be able to catch up a bit, yesterday we went outside in the frontyard and played in a sprinkler....in the midst of a downpour. (The kids thought it was neat getting hit by water from both directions. ;) )

GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY GAY.

There :). The expected B3D response. :p

Oh, I vote pool. And you've almost convinced me to get one myself :). Have you considered getting a barbecue, too? You probably already have one, of course ;).

Yeah, we got a pretty nice little gas grill that I use year round.

On pools, I'm pretty firmly decided on this one as it seems a great value for what I'm getting...but this one here is tempting me 'cause it's just a tad bigger/deeper.

The first pool should be about 29" full, the second is 32". My daughter's shoulders are at 33", so either one should be pretty good.
