Stupid PS2. How do I fix this?

Nesh

I dont know whats going on but for some reason it caused scratches on a disk.

I decided to purhcase GT4 since I founded it cheap. So I buy it come home put the brand new disk in my PS2 and play....a few hours later it gets stuck in a loading screen.

I pop out the disk and I see round scratches on it. I dont know why it did it. My PS2 hasnt moved at all while playing and it doesnt do the same with other games. Now GT4 stucks and crashes or takes minutes to load. And I barely got the chance to play it

The scrathes arent deep at all. But they are visible. I used cloth and alcohol spray and wiped it. But it didnt help.

Do you know the reason this was caused?

But mainly do you know of an effective and easy way of fixing it by myself without the aid of disk repairing devices and scratch repairing kits?

If its just that game, then its the exception so maybe you can get the disk returned/exchanged, either from the place you bought it or maybe from Sony?

I can only guess there was something on the disk tray. If it doesn't do it consistently, probably a bit of grit. The only other possible reason I think is that the drive head got too close, but then it should do that consistently, at least reading that part of the disc. For what it's worth, my PS2 has epiletic fits, thrashing the drive head around, and the discs aren't ever damaged.

If it's only the GT4 disc, it could as well be the disc it self: check if it's warped. If it's happening with other discs as well, then it's probably the drive itself.

Nope its not warped. And I dont have this problem with other games either. Which pisses me off because I think they wont be changing the disk. I ll take it today though.

I have my rights as a customer and I hope they will change it with another copy

They usually do exchange this, either at the store or through Sony - just start talking about how you can't legally make a back-up copy of these discs or there wouldn't have been a problem. ;)

I took it yesterday. He wasnt willing to change it. He was trying to throw the blame on me that I wasnt taking care of the disk or that its my PS2's fault. Anyways, I was lucky enough that the guy knew a DVD Rental where they fix disks from scratches. I took it there and voila its good as new.

There is not a single scratch to be seen on the disk and he did it for me free of charge :D

The device that guy had was pretty awesome!!

Two days ago I was searching over the internet of a way to remove scratches by my self and found that Gamespot did it for $3 or something I think. Well, seeing how that guy fixed mine, they could have had as well fixed it for 50 cents the most.

What they do is put some kind of liquid on a round brush the machine has, then place the CD in the device, and they spin. Half of the brush is spinning on half the spinning disk and removes a thin portion of the disk layer and smoothes it out. It takes less than a minute to do that.

true, it's easy, but you have to recoup your investment on the machine and then make a profit.

Game crazy around the corner has one and I got 10 free disc repairs when I signed up for their "VIP" card, so there's that. ;)
