It's complicated, as Shifty says. If BMWK cost $100m and GOW cost $200m, but GOW sold an extra 10m copies, that's $700m in added revenue. Sony probably made the right call there.
There's a tendency to bad mouth AAA games theses days and it's simplistic IMO. It's like anything else, the details matter. Some companies are pouring millions into poorly conceived AAA titles like Ubisoft for instance and other companies like Sony have a pretty good track record. Similarly, for every BMWK success story trumpeted by the gaming media there are 10 AA failures we never hear about. Don't get sucked into the media narrative. Always remember that media's prime directive isn't to inform you of the truth, but to get clicks on their websites.
