Sooooooo, it's 6:25 Texas time, what happened?!?!?!

The cards used were X850 XT PE 256 meg cards only. Micci, Opp, and Fuggler all vote modded the cards and had many cards to work with if they fried them. I think Opp and Micci fried one each Satarday.

DANG DANG DANG, Many cards to work with?!?!?!?!!?
I wouldn't mind one :( :( a working one that is

So what was the point in the whole thing? They fly Macci out to the US and get Fugger, OPP, Chilly1 and PC-Ice to join him, then don't let them use the new board, after explicitly stating they were going after some world records in 3DMark05, a test dominated by SLI systems at the moment?

Or have I missed something?

Nope, that sums it up pretty well.

everybody say 'w00t'. :D

w00t

thats like calling all racers from around the world to try and set the world speed record for a civic.

Is there anything in 3DM05 that the extra 256MB memory would help with? I'd think the XTPE's higher speeds would be better to set records with at 1024x768 without AA.

Edit: Hugely geometry bound, or just overly so in comparison to (current) games? Either way, the X850XT probably wouldn't have an edge over the X800XTPE in that department simply because the two cards are clocked the same.

The real reason behind it was to promote ATI's new board and 512 MB card. Nothing more. It's simply not possible for one card to beat two cards of equal or slightly greater power.

There probably wouldn't be a massive difference at 1024x768, but at 1600x1200, you might see a 25% (or so) difference in scores.

well, I can't think of why they didnt hype to make a new speed record with 1600x1200 +6xAA :)
