Sony running out of PS3 dev kits

Jeez....I said so many times..FF the single player game..I wouldn't put FFXI on the same level of importance with other FF titles.

Why ? ff mmorpg has made almost more money than the last single player ff .

Last i saw it has 400k subsribers world wide paying 10$ a month minimum (1.99$ per character more )

400k x 50$ is what 20 million ? then you have 400k x 10$ = 4 million a month ? so 4x12 is 48 million x 3 = 144million dollars in the last 3 years excluding add ons .

The next online mmorpg will most likely have the same installed base but sell better as mmorpgs become more main stream .

To square the mmorpgs are just as important . Every company wants the new ultima online which is on its 8th year now i believe and still has over a 100k people and has sold 8 expansions with a 9th coming out . That is money hand over fist

Isn't that why SE is also bringing FFXI to the Xbox360 also? Multiplatform strategy is perfect for MMORPG like FFXI since more people playing means more continuous money flow.
I really don't think MMORPG will be mainstream, because they are way too time demanding for casual gamers. MMORPG is for hardcores and hardly a system seller.
Yeah, FFXI is important for SE(Duh), but that was not what I was talking about. FFXI doesn't sell systems, but traditional FF series is system seller, that is why I said I wouldn't put FFXI on the same level of importance with other FF titles.

Didn't you hear his comments about the sony mabye not including a hardrive

They feel (rightly so ) that the mmorpgs need a hardrive to do what they do . So we may end up with the ff not being multiplatofrm or x360 getting them first

Mmrpgs will go mainstream its only a matter of time . Its just like video games . It takes awhile but something will hit the mark with the main stream and it wll go from there . Remember mmorpgs haven't even hit 10 years yet . Its still a baby in an industry that is a baby

As for if it can sell systems of course it can. I know people who bought the ps2 just for that game . Will it sell as many as a final fantasy stand alone ? Mabye not . But then again we don't know how big of a draw the next final fantasy will be or which system it will apear firt on .

Is FFXI that important of a title? PS2 already has FFXI. And even though Xbox360 gets that title, PS3 not geting that title will not hurt Sony that much.
MMORPG going mainstream? Have you ever played MMORPG before? that genre of game is way too much time demanding for casual gamers. I really think it will stay hardcore.

I've been playing mmorpgs sinceu ltima online when iwas still in highschool

New games like city of heros has reduced most of the grind to almost nothing and new games will continue to do that . There are alot of people who are interested in mmorpgs. I haev many friends who tell me how great it must be to paly one because there is allways moer story and the 40-50 hours you'd spend on a really good rpg doesn't go to waste in a rpg .

The real problem is there isn't one that hit the market right yet. That is mostly because of tech . Games like eq2 with its fully voiced world and tablua rasa with its intergrated voice chat will bring even more people to the games .

ff mmorpg will be important . If its not on the ps3 those who still pay money to play it will buy the xbox 360 with the updated graphics and new races/ professions (gotta buy the expansion on the ps2 anyway ) just for that game . Because i know how adicting a mmorpg is and I've bought 500$ graphics cards just to up the image quality up 1 notch on the scale .

People who will buy Xbox360 just for FF mmorpg will be very selected few and won't be a major influence on the market as whole. Yes, MMORPG is addictive(I play them a lot, I currently play WoW), but they are addictive for the selective few which is hardcore gamers..Not many players are willing to stay commited to one game for a several months at least..grinding or not. Most people I know are either not interested in MMORPG as a whole or not willing to commit such a long time in a single game. I am not against MMORPG going mainstream at all, if that happens, great for the industry, but that genre has too many intangibles to become mainstream genre.

Just curious, if you love MMORPGs, but don't think that others will? Why is that? For many people, getting into a game like that isn't a matter of playing the game to win, it's just another social outlet.

To clairify that point: it doesn't mean that they have to invest their life into the game for any reason. People could (and do) just get online once in a while to interact with friends they meet there.

Online games have always been as much chatrooms as they have been gaming environments.

It will catch on huge when the right game world is created one day.

They said video games will never been mainstream and we are now on the cusp of that event .

Face it you were wrong when you said final fantasy online wasn't a system pusher. NOt only were u wrong but u neglected the fact that it stll managed to move a hardrive that was only made for it

Don't bring that "I am right you are wrong" kind of accusation. Yes, I still believe that FF online is not a system pusher. Did FFXI spike up PS2 sale in any major way? I think not. Majority of people who got FFXI in the first place is FF fans who already had PS2. Yeah, it sold harddrives because people were required to buy it(FFXI sold WITH harddrive), duh.

Its kinda hard to spike sales when a system is at 40 million + units when a game comes out . Even selling 500k systems wouldn't be noticed .

The only time you really get system seller games is at the start of its life . Even gta va wasn't a system seller though it sold millions of copies

GTAIII actually was system seller, it came out only a year after PS2 launch and right around time of Xbox and GC launch.
I think u get system seller not only at the start of its life, but middle of its lifecycle as well...I define certain title as system seller if it helps to sell the system more than its competitors.

you miss the vc part ? I'm talkin about vice city , it didn't sell systems . Because the system was establishid and already sold in large quanitys .

If the ff online comes out for the x360 in the first 6 months of its life it will sell systems . Esp in japan where the game is very popular

oops, missed it..I am actually wrong there...lol but u said VA, not VC, i didn't know what that was.

I don't think FF online will be a major factor, because since it is FFXI with updated graphics. FFXI is already 4 years old there..not many people will switch to Xbox360 just to play updated graphics version of very same game. I think FFXI userbase is already reached its peak there and I don't know if it will attract many new players. I might be wrong, but I am pretty confident that it is what is going to happen. I don't see FFXI more than kind of monumental piece that Microsoft is actually getting support from SE.

Come on you of all people should know about mmorpgs. Those still playing it will buy an xbox 360 for the updated grpahics and new features . Wouldn't u buy a new video card for an expansion of wow if u need it ? Not only that but as time goes on more and more packs will be released on the x360 and may be exclusive to the pc and the x360 (who knows the ps2 may not get these new classes and jobs )

ANd the point is this may not be the only game from square to come exclusively to the x360 . You may end up seeing hte x360 as squares mmorpg + orignal games platform vs the ps3 as the orignal games platform with both getting ports .

We do not now the future

My argument was strictly on FFXI..not X360 possibly getting other games from SE. What I am trying to say is that X360 may have other games by SE, but unless X360 sells really well in Japan, I think most of the major franchises that SE has will stay exclusive to PS3.

I know, we do not know the future, I am only predicting.

why ? the usa and europe are as big on thier own as japan . IF the x360 has good penteration they will get just as many games . Actually we don't really know what fallout if any the ps3 not having a hardrive will end up

I don't see square being at the ms confrence if they were just porting ff online . There wil lcertianly be other games and most likely thier ff games and they will sell veery well on teh x360

The way i look at ff online for the x360 is simple .

1) Square can have it up and running quickly and the hardware is there on the xbox out of the box

2) It will be the first tittle square releases (90% chance) on a next gen paltform

3) its the gateway for square to go multiplatform . They tried this last gen with chronicles but lets face it the game was lack luster and nintendos fan base doesn't really support such a game nor i do i think they will sutstain non exclusive games well either as many nintendo games going foward will own two systems . So the obvious choice for square is x360 . I'm sure ms knowing how popular square is gave them a very nice deal for thier titles and seeing square at ms's press confrence really says they aren't just making ff online for the system. They wouldn't have made that tech demo if they were going to do nothing else . They would have just ported the code over from the pc and set it up to work with live .

I can see SE's online games go Xbox exclusive and FF:CC franchise go Nintendo exclusive and FF and DQ going PS3 exclusive. I really don't know why but SE never had same game go multiplatform(even porting) and I don't think that trend will end.(with FFXI being MMORPG, it is special exception) I will say again, unless X360 sells well in Japan, it won't get either FF or DQ.
