Sony Q3 (Calendar Q4) Results - NPS profits...

Heh I don't need to be told that the one having a bigger marketshare has to sell more units to maintain its percentage :) In absolute measure PS3 has quite probably gained marketshare in each and every quarter it has been on the market. In the beginning it was really easy, of course as they draw closer, gaining further percentages will be harder.

Hehe, yup as soon as PS3 launch it immediately gained marketshare on the X360, and thus was doing fantastic. ;)

In that weird sort of reasoning launching first is bad since the only thing you can do is lose marketshare.

SB

This really shows how well the PS3 is selling, despite being the most expensive console. It's unbelievable how close they are to 360,even when they launch almost a year later.

I believe if you had told any PS3 fan in Nov 2006 that it would take at least until the Q1 of 2011 for the PS3 to eat through the 360's 1 year lead, they would of called you an Xbot.

Please apply that to post #36, then. ;)

I believe if you had told any non-biased console owner in Nov. 2007 that the PS3 would never catch up to or pass the 360, they would and still would call you an Xbot. :)

Actually so far this year (2011) they're about 20% higher than the same time in 2010 in japan, even though theres been no new (big) software for the ps3

Noone commented on the ps2 having the same shipment numbers as they did last year!
The funny thing is the ps2 this year will prolly ship more than the gamecube or xbox1 did in their peak years :)

How are you calculating? Which tracker are you using? According to Media Create there has NOT been a single week in 2011 where the PS3 has outperformed the PS3 in 2010. Where are you getting 20% higher?

PS3 is still very far behind in the US region by a large margin right?

There's about a 9.9M unit difference as of the latest NPD release. This last year saw the gap grow by 2.5M units.

For perspective, the PS3's US LTD sales are 29.6M behind the PS2's LTD sales and 0.9M ahead of the original XBOX's LTD.

@NavNucST3 you are right, My fault, looks like I drew a line at the top of the spreedsheet cells instead of at the bottom of it, to separate the yearsIll change it now

Not really a big deal it's (PS3) a small difference from last year if taken in context. It isn't like the home consoles are setting the world ablaze in Japan.

There is only 5+ years to in sales for the PS3 to go. I wonder how close it can get to the PS2's LTD by that time.

So that's down YoY in Japan and US right?

The most recent quarter is down YoY 6.3 vs 6.5, yet we are to believe that they will sell more this quarter than they did last year where they were clearly beyond major shortages.

And this while selling flat to lower in the largest market and flat to lower in Japan.

I'll go out on a limb here and predict that Sony will ship exactly 2.8 million consoles this quarter, which at a 27% YOY increase, with no price drop, is pretty impressive.

Impressive indeed.

Impressive indeed.
Europe is Sony's largest market, by far.

When were the shortages, then? The following article says major shortages were in Jan. and Feb.:

We get this overshipped nonsense every time the ps3 does well. It's quite funny to be honest.

I think Sony will hit the 15 million if they've kept the forecast. Arent they now doing a $50/$1000 cashback?. So it looks like they feel they'l fall short so are remedying it.

Anybody got numbers for Europe? I can envision that's the territory were sales are up. GT5 is still selling like hot cakes over there and throughout the month of December, with it having a bundle option for the PS3.
