Sony: No One Will Use 100% of PS3

Regular
and games currently use less than half.

1UP is reporting MTV's interview with Sony's Phil Harrison. Sony's President of Worldwide Studios is quoted to say that "No one will use 100% of PS3" due to firmware upgrades and new uses for the Sixaxis controller.

Also he sees that overcoming the term "video game" is their biggest challenge.

I fervently believe that the biggest challenge we face is that our industry is referred to as 'video games,' and games are supposed to be fun. Games should deal with fear, should deal with comedy and with death. They should deal with peril, with drug offenses.

I knew it all along!

So it was Phil Harrison who has been sucking the fun out of video games to fufill his vision of un-fun entertainment where you feel only fear, peril, and drug induced euphoria!

Of course I'm sure that quote was taken out of context

Did he have any year-end thoughts on perhaps the most unconventional game Sony published this year, "LocoRoco"? "It was a very successful game for us and we're continuing to evolve the franchise," he said. "We're going to bring 'LocoRoco' back in a couple of new ways with some new friends in the future."
I like the sound of that. That game would be perfect on the PS3 with Sixaxis control.

No console is used 100%. Or computer. I don't think there's any processor that keeps it's ALU's fed 100% of the time (while doing something useful!). You won't be accessing the memory at 100% available BW 100% of the time. Plus you can use 90% of a systems resources badly, and 70% well, and get better results with the latter.

Speaking to MTV, he said "nobody will ever use 100 percent of its capability" due to firmware upgrades and new uses for the Sixaxis controller.

How do firmwares and the controller contribute to this?:???:

I bet he wanted to say services, but that would be too much of a direct copy. ;)

The original quote in that MTV article is:

But for PS3, the system's capabilities will keep changing as its firmware gets constantly updated via the Internet, and developers will continue to learn new ways to best use the machine's multiple processors and Sixaxis controller. Sony's games on PS3 right now use "less than half" of the PS3, he said. "Nobody will ever use 100 percent of its capability."

Sigh... The 100% comment is separate from the firmware + SIXAXIS statement. Now it seems they have reached a new low. 1UP has lost their command of English, right after losing their journalism and lack of technical analysis capability.

Ordinary Bob will surely love the sound of this though. 'PS3 is so powerful that I will NEVER use the full potential of it because it keeps evolving like pokemons!'

Agreed. Seems a sudden wave of stupidity has swept through the 1up offices, as they continue to one up themselves!
