Sony Invention Beams Sights, Sounds Into Brain

like it happened with the Immersion case. They patented a technology, Sony used the same technology, and they had to pay.
Yes the system is crap, but what can u do

Not really, Immersion actually had a working technology to patent. Now I haven't looked at the patent myself but Alejux seems to be saying that Sony are trying to patent an idea only. Without any knowledge of how to actually make such an idea work. If thats actually true then I agree with Alejux that its patently :))) ridiculous. Because if any company actually produced technology like this they would then have to pay Sony royalties for something Sony didn't even invent.. Although I'm suspicious of how this can possibly to true, surely the patent system can't be this screwed up!

Can it be patented as fiction? Like I'm sure lucasarts has the idea of an xwing patented or copyrighted, what if someone made a real one?

X-wing can only be patented as a design. A patent has to cover a functional thing whereby the implementation is new, unique and unobvious. Except software patents which seem to have no rules.

The X-wing couldn't be patented as it doesn't offer any new, unique and unobvious technologies. However, if Lucas came up with the tech for the lasers, engines, etc. these could be patented.

AFAIK you don't need a working prototype for a patent - only the idea. Many small inventors work on the principle of creting a patent, then seeking development, sometimes without a prototype to show becuase it'd cost too much to make.

I guess they looked at TMS which is like MRI then they thought, hey if there's MRI and Ultrasound, then in the future there maybe TMS and Ultasound...

That's basically what the patent describes.

Well as long as you don't use it more often than once a year, you should be safe from brain cancer... Imagine the adverts

"So amazing you can only use it once a year!!!"

:devilish:
