Sony Home - The official thread*

Am I missing something? Isn't the XMB already universal game launching (put in a game and launch it) capable?
I think he means form a party and play from XMB, without having to go through the rigmarole of entering Home and meeting up. It really needs cross-application voice chat to do this properly.

Sony signed another agreement to bring new items to Home this month:
http://www.alphazone4.co.uk/2009/09/future-content-jon-burgerman-and-body-art

Lockwood Publishing have signed a deal to offer Jon Burgerman art exclusively in PlayStation Home, so you’ll be seeing his iconic artwork in no other virtual world. Due to release in October, the first Jon Burgerman items will include animated hoodies and glow-in-the-dark footwear. Lockwood are also publishing some of their new alternative clothing range with body art.

There are tattoos, hoodies, and glow in the dark shoes. The new clothes should make Home a little less sterile. But I think the biggest culprit is probably the animation (e.g., Sitting posture is too straight and everyone sits the same way).

v1.3 is available for download now. I am done downloading... going in for a quick look.

EDIT: Heh, servers are taking a beating. Can't enter. Will try later.

Right. It needs all of that. There's plenty of whispering that cross-game chat is coming soon.

If you have problem launching Home v1.3, delete it from your HDD and redownload. That fixed the connection problem for me. sigh~

Or maybe it's just a coincidence. I only tried it just now and had no problems. The clothing preview function is fun.

I don't know what's went wrong (may be it's some sort of old cache problem). Been trying to connect for 7-8 times. The reinstall worked on first try.

There are other folks with the same problem on GAF.

Ok, so tested game launching, and you can boot any game from your HDD as well. It's a slight bit weird in that it goes through the interface of setting up a game, but it works and it's fast - to boot into the game anyway. It takes about 90 seconds to return (may take longer the first time, as the first time you return after 1.3 it may have to do some extra stuff - I upgraded my cache to 12GB and bought 8 new free clothing items, for instance).

You can see easily who's playing what game though, which is nice - I could see that even in the mall where I was earlier, two people had launched into two different games.

Also noticed that the Lost Planet 2 demo supports game launching natively by the way.

The 3D stuff at the store works. You can also view several different combinations of clothing items, which is nice, or reset at will. The view window could be bigger though, and there are some slight camera issues where sometimes the camera will stay closer than you'd want (the camera is programmed to highlight the body part that the selected piece of clothing pertains to).

Caching seems to work well, the world map loaded instantly now. It's clear also that items are loaded/downloaded in paralel now, like webpages. The wardrobe is very fast now - I have tens of clothing items (all free from the store or rewards btw) for the torso, and that loaded quite slow sometimes before, but now it's very fast.

So far, pretty good update.

Moving between my two personal spaces took 10 seconds. Loading speed of spaces seems a fair bit improved again too.

Again....whay haven't they integrated the PS store into HOME is beyond me...advertise in HOME let the user purchase the product.

I launched Home on accident (again.. icon looks like the store) and it crashed before I got in. I had to reset the PS3. They need to work in its stability, I swear I crash about half the time I use Home.

Yap, Home v1.3 crashed on me twice. I suspect a 1.3.1 will be needed.

Haven't got the chance to poke around as much as I liked yet. I noticed the new map screen in the Central Mall, and the updated Listen@Home corner so far.

EDIT:
Ah, here's the official confirmation of the "Delete Home, then reinstall" fix:
http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3home&thread.id=786306

If you are experiencing difficulties logging into PlayStation Home, we suggest that you delete PlayStation Home from the PlayStation Network column on the XMB and then reinstall. You can do this by selecting the PlayStation Home icon and pressing TRIANGLE > Delete. Then simply reinstall by selecting the PlayStation Home icon, pressing X, and following the on-screen instructions.

If you still experience difficulties logging in after deleting and reinstalling the client, we suggest that you delete the Apartment save data for the last apartment that you visited. Deleting this save data will erase the furniture layout for the apartment selected, but it will not otherwise affect your inventory or cause you to lose any of your items. Select “Save Data Utility” under the “Game” column on the XMB. The name of the Apartment is displayed under the date of the save data.

Note: A compatability issue with the below list of items may be causing crashes as you attempt to load your avatar intoan apartment decorated with said items. For this reason, we suggest that you do not attempt to re-enter an apartment decorated with these items after deleting your "Save Data Utility." We will keep you updated as to the status of these errors. Thanks for your patience and support while our dev team works to address these issues.

I had the issue yesterday when I updated. It kept crashing. So the first thing I thought was to delete and reinstall it. It now works fine

Use it longer. I think it will crash because of other reasons. The official forum post above outlined some possible causes. However I think there are more reasons since I don't have any of those items (except for Loot). I don't think my Loot camera is on heavy-duty tripod.

In any case, the people who are into Home will likely experience more crashes given that the crashes are triggered by owned items.

I just downloaded the 1.3 update to test out the game launching. It completely locks up my PS3 when starting (at the "Initializing...") screen. What a complete joke, Sony REALLY needs to get some QA. Even after re-starting the console it does it again and again.

I've deleted the damned thing and it's never going back on the console. It's fixed frickin' hardware that you made, Sony, there's no excuse for this.

Thats exactly what happened to me as well. Reinstalling it solved the issue

Same here, PS3 60GB PAL model. Had to delete Home application and renstall it. Good it reserves all gamesave and customizations so you lose nothing.

This obviously isn't an isolated case, and given how long 1.3 was supposedly in testing for I've thought of no possible reason for this aside from astounding ineptitude. :(
