Sony connectivity

Looks like Sony is now building everything around Wireless LAN. Not only the upcoming PSP features it, the new Aibo robot dog, too.

One of the key applications of the 'AIBO Mind' software utilising the Wireless LAN technology, allows AIBO to remotely connect to an Internet enabled PC or mobile device. For example, the owner can send an email instruction to AIBO asking it to take an unsuspecting picture of the owner's children and send it back to the mobile telephone.

Sounds like a lot of fun, I just hope the price tag of the new Aibo is a bit lower.

Wow! Hey, think of the possibilities!

Imagine an Aibo connected to a Cell-powered PS3 via wireless networking; the "brain" is in the PS3, using that CPU's superior AI abilities, the Aibo's own CPU is merely a slave and acts as an I/O chip basically, sending sensor data to the PS3 while receiving instructions to move, bark etc in return. :)

That would be awesome. :) Now the Aibo just has to come down a bit in price, heh!

Now we just need an army of small solid snake 'aibo like' dolls with wireless LAN, and the world is in our grasp!

Heh, a phased plasma rifle in the fourty watt range in each Aibobot hand, and Skycellgridnet is ready to conquer humanity!

Built using technology stolen from HONDA's ASIMO too...
Are you able to back that claim up or is it just trolling?

Only clueless folks like yourself who don't follow robotics technology would ask for proof. No need to back up something that's blatantly obvious ;)

Do some research on HONDA's ASIMO...you might learn something. ;)

"Oh but it can't be!!! That's just impossible!!! SONY must of have been the original inventors because they always are!!! Afterall they invented MD, BETA, and MS!!"

"No other corporation can come up with a great idea and technology like this!!!"

"Hey all you clueless folks looky here, we reinvented ASIMO!!!"

BTW robots wirelessly connecting to the internet for various information requests have been invented by another corporation many years ago not to mention voice and face recognition. Oh yeah and speech too ;)

The concepts/code/tech for much everything used in Sony bot's where available for a long time. Even most technology used for Asimo, was invented before by other companies. What makes Asimo and the Sony bots so great is the perfect integration of these technologies and Sony for making them available to the masses (them with enough money).

As you follow robotics technology, I'm searching a second poster for my daily news: http://www.rogotworld.com/blog.php

Interested?

PS: I'm redesigning the site right now, here's the preview: http://www.rogotworld.com/redesign.php

'Stolen' might be a tad too strong word
No-one's claiming Sony had the ideas of walkin robot, or internet controlled robot first.
Get real

Interested?

No thanks, I'm much too busy :)

Perhaps, but it's basically a carbon copy of ASIMO. ASIMO was the whole package deal. All SONY did was repackage the technology and made it cheaper/smaller. No inventing involved. Just give credit where credit is due.

Well, McFly's answer was a much better than your one ... if you do your cheeky one-line remarks, with strong claims like "stolen", don't expect everybody to have your level of expertise of robotics, you should write an explaination or else you look like a troll to us "uneducated" people ...

Fair enough, but keep in mind that I wasn't talking about bits and pieces of technolgy. I was talking about the whole package. ASIMO is the whole package. HONDA took bits and pieces of technology and make a complete package (ASIMO). SONY bought an ASIMO, reverse engineered it, then made a smaller/cheaper version.

Oh please, Sony already had the Aibo, SDR is an evolution of that technology.
No doubt Sony had learned much by studying the technology Aibo used, but it is more than normal practise in technology and engineering.
To call it stealing is just being totally clueless.
...and to my understanding you are in fact talking about 'bits and piecs technology', as you in same sentence say Sony bought an Aibo and reverse-engineered it.

If you instead mean that Sony stole the idea of a walking robot, you cannot steal a general idea as such...

HONDA should reverse engineer this one and made it even cheaper ;)

ASIMO is not AIBO ;)

ASIMO is a bipedal robot made by HONDA.

AIBO is a quadpedal robot made by SONY.

A robotic dog is nothing to brag about. A two legged walking robot that can climb stairs, walk sideways, etc. hasn't been done before until HONDA's ASIMO. SONY then reversed engineered HONDA'S ASIMO as a whole package then repackaged it into a smaller form factor. Just look at the way the SDR walks for crying out loud and the ankle joints. It's blatantly obvious. Just give credit where credit is due or STFU already or go download video clips from HONDA's website because you have no clue whatsoever.

V3, HONDA can easily make a cheaper version, it's just that they intended on using ASIMO for industrial purposes not some stupid toy.

Post EVIDENCE that Sony ripped off Asimo, or go have yourself a nice cup of STFU, thank you. "Look at the ankle joints!" looks like a seriously bad excuse to me. So what, it has ankle joints, is that supposed to be news to anyone?

If Sony had REALLY ripped off Honda, there'd be a lawsuit heading Sony's way you can count on it.
