Some things about NV30 and other stuff

Ok , I was mistaken about the images.

1. The Killeroo demo I was watching was done on a NV30 simulator
2. Despite all the hoopla , Nvidia's stance is unchanged . NV30 will be on store shelves this fall . Whether they'll meet that or not I won't speculate , except for some strange reason, next time you hear from me in any meaningful way (well my 9000 Pro and Parhelia reviews will most likely be up this week but after that) will be sometime in September
3. The NV30 pictures were not done on a NV30. No conspiracy theories here, I misunderstood some of the captions sent with the pictures. Nvidia got back to me on Friday and sorry for any confusion
4. As to why there's a little confusion on Radeon 9700 review units. ATI's Rick Bergman one of their VPs , said at the Radeon 9700 launch ( I was there remember ;)) review units would be out in 2 weeks. As it's now over 2 weeks since the event, I asked ATI PR about this, and they were a little surprised Rick said 2 weeks. They are working on getting the samples out, but you probably won't be seeing reviews from Tom/Anand etc for at least another week at the earliest , as no press samples are out yet.

September will then be the paper launch of the NV30, I guess. Fair enough, but I still think they should at least have working silicon back before lauching anything. IMHO.

Thanks for the clarifications, ben6.

Aw, Ben, let us have some advance ammunition to spice up your return. ;)

Thanks for the info. I don't expect to see NV30 this year, but nVidia still gets the benefit of the doubt due to their market leadership.

Enjoy your break from unreality! :)

Fall doesn't necessarily mean September... remember it ends in late December ;). Either it comes out in fall or it misses christmas, so I wouldn't expect nvidia to ever say they're expecting it later than fall.

I don't know how you count seasons in other parts of the world, but fall ends here in November.

Ending of autumn tends to vary, for some reason the 21st of the month have become the 'official' ends of seasons presumably because the equinoxes and soltsices occur then. Doesn't really fit very well as its clearly winter well before the 21st of december and ditto for the other seasons :)

I think if they said a fall product it would be out before the end november. They'd miss the christmas season if the released it on hte 20th of december :).

IIRC autumn is the yearly period when the 24 hr average temperature falls below 10 C but is above 0 C. Hence winter is when the 24 hr av. temp. is below zero, spring is between 0 C and 10 C, and summer above 10 C.

So I guess, a lot of you guys don´t know what a real winter is like

;)

:) I were at ESC2002 in San Francisco in Mars. When the temperature went below 15ºC, the weather reporter said "The winter sure has come back". Silly people! :)
Well, I think there are different definitions of "winter" at different places.

Yeah right,in winter I'd be lucky if it even gets above -20 degrees c.

Anyway,in spite of what most are saying,I'm still expecting a paper launch this month.

i would like to point you to something in the fruit pic other than the shaders. look at the background and tell me what you notice.

"depth of field" a feature of the 3Dfx T-Buffer. the Rampage (on which the NV30 is based) supported not only T-Buffer, but a MUCH more advanced "M-Buffer." I think we all look forward to seeing just what the M-Buffer will be capable of.

Yeah! don't believe anything what I say!

(sigh... I am so sick of all prehype. Maybe combination of Avalanche & Parhelia failures and success of R300 was too much.)

damn I need a good vacation but I don't have possibility to have one before christmas.
