But in this movie she didn't transform into the pheonix. She just got washed away in the flood.

NO!

Watch the last few seconds of the film again. You can see here in the lake that formed after the dam broke. She is something like a white ghost in the water. Look closely.

Exactly.

I thought I saw here become aflame just before the water hit her after she dropped her arms... her eyes certainly were fiery...

I will, once again, as a non X-men afficianado, say that none of that is obvious, nor, without explaination, is conveyed to me through the film.

I thought I saw some shape in the water at the end. I thought it was maybe an X.

It certianly didn't _explain_ to me what happened to her, what was affecting the plane, and why she had to get off.

But you folks seem satisfied, so I'll just accept that I'm a simpleton.

I never bought any Xmen comics ( i used to be a superman or any DC comics boy) but i did follow the xmen saga and kinda heard that jean was vaguely connected to this phoenix thing. and it didn't take me that long to figure out what the deal was as soon as jean's eyes were all fiery at the beginning of the movie. and at the end, the light coloured silouette in the lake was pretty OBVIOUS to me at least...

still, the movie absolutely rocks... i was litterally saying *whoa thats so cool* at some point in the movie....

at last movies are beginning to be like what i always dreamed they would be when reading the comics. not like the tacky supermen movies (which were cool when they first came out, but even then, i was like 5)

A few things.

First, the entire hint about evolution right in the begining should have tipped you off later in the movie. I'm so grateful everything was spelled out.

Then you start noticing Jean is starting to have her powers grow rather rapidly. Not to mention the weird fire in her eyes.

As for the entire plane incident, during the dinosaur museum incident, where she wasn't quite focused, you could see the TV sets got messed up because of that. There was an interruption in their signal and so on. I think Jean realised it was her again on the plane. Just like she knew her powers had been acting up during the museum. So she got off the plane.

If this wasn't obvious stuff then good. Crappy kiddie films spell everything out for you, while this one actually makes you think about what happend and what will happen. You don't need to be some sort of X-Men afficianado to figure this stuff out.

Even if you dont get the phoenix stuff I dont see how it detracts from the movie. My biggest gripe was when Wolverine couldnt sniff through the shapeshifters disguise, made suspension of disbelief a little hard. Also nightcrawlers oscillation between serious naive religious guy and bungling idiot comic relief guy was a bit jarring.

You don't need to be some sort of X-Men afficianado to figure this stuff out.

To figure out that something was going on with jean, and the reason she got off... you're right... but to figure out that this is connected to the phoenix... You need to be some sort of X-Men afficianado...

I spoke with my wife about this (she being as far from comics as possible), and her thoughts were:

-She suspected Jean (the telepath in question) did not really die, or that her death was open enough that she could come back in another movie.
-She didn't see anything definite in the water at the end.
-She thought that getting off the plane was a cheap plot device to add to the tension. It came across as she needed to go outside the plane and levitate it to save it. Not she had to get off so the plane would stop going haywire. She said "I didn't see her being the cause at all".

WELL, SOMEONE who's not familiar with the xmen storyline wouldn't know who Phoenix is... hell they woulndt even know who the hell wolverine of whoever else is, they would just see a bunch of super guys fighting each other.... still, that doesnt make the movie any less extraordinary that it really is.

Oh, he does also have heightened, almost animal like, senses. Its believed hes related to Sabretooth in some way. There was also a period in the comis where he lost is adamantium (gawd knows how!) and his claws were still there, made from bone.

Magneto ;)

SPOILER

Phoenix will devolve back into Jean Grey...Phoenix is too powerful.

Oh yea the Wolverine mini series by Barry Windsor Smith (art and story) is awesome. I recommend all of you to read it. NOW!

The Jean Grey stuff about Phoenix rising from the ashes etc was written by Chris Claremont who also wrote some Babylon 5 unless I am much mistaken.

I miss Psylocke and the flirtation with her and Cyclops (she died tho' in the comics eh?) ... it was nice to see Colossus do a cameo, "I can help!"

Oh and Gandalf is one awesome actor... ;)

Jean has nothing on Psylocke in the looks/clothing department. =)

I hope they bring her into the series, of course there is still beast -- hinted to, in X2 they showed a quick tidbit with Hank Macoy-- and then there is angel and some others.

Where was hank? I didn't even notice.. I was too busy smiling at the screen.

In the bar, I think when Mystique is Grace. You see it on the TV, before the guard says turn that crap off.
