So much for id doing the Doom 3 Xbox port

Anyway, I wonder if the switch to D3D will impact performance. Obviously Q3 engine powered games have made it over well before but those were hardly state of the art.

From what I understand, just for this one game MS is allowing id to use a private OpenGL compiler for the XDK.

I thought NVIDIA always had an OpenGL library for the Xbox?

I've heard the same but has it ever been confirmed? And even if they prepared one for launch that doesn't guarantee that it is being maintained so performance is up to par.

Anyway, the point is that it hasn't been used so far. M$ simply hasn't allowed it. Q3 engine based games have all been converted to D3D. The fact that id has outsourced the port off Doom 3 I take as an indication that it will also be converted to D3D.

I think Doom3 would be better served on next-generation consoles rather than the current XBox.

It will be Doom3 in name only, much like Model 2 arcade conversions to Saturn.

or Naomi 2 to ps2 ;)

They do. That's what I was referring to.

But they haven't let anyone use it.

I've heard that one of the stipulations for putting DOOM3 on Xbox was that they had to let id leave it in OpenGL, or something along those lines.

I have always wondered why Doom III multplayer only has deathmatch. From what I saw of the game, it isn't very fast paced.... coupled that with 4 players maximum, they should have added a cooperative mode to the game instead.

How much down graded? Well we've gone over this many times before haven't we.

Personally it will be locked a 30fps some texture quality reduced and IF they use hard drive caching (load a little to start level, DVD to hard drive, load of hard drive when you need it etc) it probably won't be all that bad at all.

Considering the team mastered the GBA it can't eb that big a jump... right? ;)

I think the reason Carmack isn't doing is for two reasons. 1. Carmack is proably to intrested in building a new engine rather than making a port.

2. Because Activison want to get this title out a fast as possible to make big bucks before it's old hat.

yes some developpers prioritize the ability to make nice screenshots over framerate while other prioritize framerate..
