Slim 360

Buy the Elite in the first place for the same price as the competition with comparable space?

You're paying $100 for a 120GB hard drive when buying the elite over the arcade. That's why they're giving away last fall's releases with the Elite these days. Otherwise $299 for no wifi, no blu-ray and pay to play is poor value, and they're aware of it hence the bundles. From my experience with a jasper 360, dvd drive is unbearably loud while the rest of the system is pretty quiet, neccesitating an install for every game. $199 with storage should be the goal.

The flagship X360 with 120Gb of storage for $299. The same price as a PS3 with 120GB of storage. That was my answer to "no cheap storage on 360".

You rip on the HDD upgrade price, but the price with a good size hard drive to start is competitive. And you also get the option of no HDD if you gasp, dont want one.

Yeah, the 360 is a bit overpriced right now. Nobody is forcing anybody to buy it and we know a price drop should come soon. It still sold healthily in last month's NPD.

Interesting analysis for the 360 slim motherboard, the article is translated from French but most of it is understandable.

This picture does not look a ton smaller than regular 360. Which is about he same thing Ben Heck said in the other article.

Guess it's as much about a clean start in marketing as actual size reductions.

Since the Japanese are meant to love small consoles, I wonder if it can give 360 a relative boost in Japan. Before PS3 slim, it was often 10-20K PS3 vs 5-7K 360 weekly. Since (after the holiday), it's been more like 25k PS3 against 2-3k 360. Of course we wont expect any miracles, just wondering if it can relatively double sales or so.

IT be interesting to see the ps3 fat there. Its bigger than the 360.

Anyway for all we know this is a test board and the final size can be smaller.

Hopefully the power brick gets smaller. I like a power brick more than it being in the system because it hides behind my entertainment unit.

Though in the end I will most likely wait for the xbox 3

i've been thinking about the welfare storage that ms is rolling out on a future update. so when the xbox came out developers were actually somewhat vocal about the xbox skus not having a hdd standard which meant they couldnt really utilize the hdd. with the update it opens up the possibility for games having mandatory installs. having installs could drastically improve the problems with the dvd size limit since you could install the redundant data and have an entire disc of unique assets.

This is a Photoshop that appeared in the NeoGAF thread about the supposed slim motherboard; people were asking "can somebody mock up in Photoshop what we are talking about", and somebody took the challenge; no one ever pretended it's real there.
