Size of PS3 Controller

My personal feeling is they should do away with the packed in controller . Instead here is what i think they should do

At launch offer one of two controllers free . So that the customer can choose . ONe for those with smaller hands and ones for those with larger hands . Its hard for a one size fits all controller .

I loved the original saturn controller it fit well in my hand , but the jap pad that came out later not so much (though the controller itself was better ) Where as for my younger sister it was the oppisite .

never gonna happen
one controller to rule them all
there will be third party controllers to choose from later

Good idea, but it would be a little weird buying a PS3 and not having the controller in the box. What if the store ran out of one kind of controller. Someone would buy a PS3 with no controller.

Mmm that would just show that Sony aren't too convinced about the design choice of their controller, which is not a good thing.

They will stick to one controller.

I"m talking about every manufacturer . No one controller fits everyones needs .

That could be a problem. of course you can still get the other one free and then simply buy the one that fits you better and use it as the main controller and have the other one as a second player controller .

Personaly i like to buy everything first party. i've had really bad times with madcatz and the other company

It's a prototype controller, the final result may well be something entirely different. In September and October we will see the first playable PlayStation 3 games emerge (TGS and at a trade show in NYC, both press only/behind closed doors), so there might well be a controller that's gone through a lot of changes (PlayStation 3 designs seems more 'locked').

Just on the whole topic of "big hands", this is a pretty good estimate of how it compares with size of DS2.

Looks like it's catering more to Japanese game players. ;)

Now we know the size of the controller, it sure seems that PS3 case is not very big at all. 12 to 14 inches high at most?

Isn't that bigger than the original Xbox? ;)

Thats why we're probably going to have a different controller released for the non-japanese markets. Like Xbox mini controller for the Japanese markets and any other sane person who ever owned one. (Sorry, but they really were huge and ackward, looks like they did a much better job with the new controllers)

Word is a controller from back in the PS1 days similar to the PS3's in looks/appearence was hailed as one of the most comfortable ever - could be that there's more to this than would seem obvious at first. I personally could see that controller being quite comfortable, but of course I could also see it being useless. Hard to know until I hold it.

Here's a shot of this ancient beast:

If that's true then it would've been the default shape for DC, GCN, and Xbox... ;)
