SCE Joins Stanford's Folding@home Program (B3D ID=32377)

ATI Technologies is 1.6 months away from overtaking Beyond3D Team. Seems like the PS3 client has come just in time

Erm, or something like that :p

Jawed

I joined mine up too. My first work unit should be complete in just another 7 hours. These thing should be able to crank out a couple WU a day. My PC takes days to complete just 1.

Well, let's just say they probably won't be using it much, so it should be a competitive advantage, yes. :p

As would those laggards at Nvidia getting their ducks in a row, I might add!
:devilish:

I'm on the scene.

8 1/2 hours until completion and 12.5 frames/sec.

The visualization aspect of the app meets my wildest hopes!

Has anyone seen points from this yet? How much is a ps3 WU worth? It looks like the stat server is down at the moment, so maybe not. 8.5 hrs sounds not bad. I was doing 2 per day with my Radeon X1900 XT.

The PS3 app has a message saying that the Fold@Home stats server should be back up at noon Pacific, so in about 45 mins. If so, hopefully we'll know more then.

Touch down ! 1 work unit completed after about 8.5 hours @ 0.0665s/frame (15 fps) and 259.91ns/day (What in the world is this ?).

And since this is the Console Talk forum.... xbd and geo, my first molecule is better than yours. :devilish:

On a more serious note, I noticed that turning on the audio, rotating the globe or the molecule via SIXAXIS, *and* bringing up the web browser to check my stats in F@H does not affect the on-going/final performance figure (well... from 0.0664s to 0.0665s). So they still have some headroom ?

This is folding

Man this is soooo cool. My first WU on the PS3 and I get a 400,000 unit baby. WTH? Why sooo big? Well I will have it completed in 8 hours so no big deal.

Well the Folding app should be running on the 'other' SPEs, with the OS reserved one still available at all times for OS-related functions.

Not to mention that the RSX is doing all the display stuff almost by itself I presume?

Well, based on 8.5 hrs, I'll pull a number out of my. . . ear. . . and guess ~200 pts per WU.

I was thinking whether that could be dedicated to folding too, or is it only G80 that can conceivably fold with good performance?

/is new to all this folding business

We'll have found the cure for all those diseases and then go extinct due to climate change because of all the extra electricity used up for folding... :p

2nd place on the TFlops already? I'm sure Sony will make a PR hooha about this when numbers start to climb.
