[Rumour] PS3 games..Sony doing a little shopping?

Titanio

Legend
I wouldn't ordinarily cross-post from another forum, but these are a bit too juicy to pass up. There's a buzz a-happening on the GA forums - apparently reliable "insiders" are saying that:

1) The next KoTOR is going to PS3 exclusively (this is apparently what Gamespy was referring to re. a defection relating to an easily identifiable weapon - i.e. lightsaber). Not known if Bioware is developing (though they seem pretty busy as is, so that's unlikely imo).

2) There's another, bigger, announcement coming too (PS3 related)

If this is true, even the first, Sony isn't being at all as complacent as I thought they might (compare something like this to their early approach with PS2, with its focus on the "usual suspects"). Tackling big "xbox" games head-on is a good strategy if you're trying to make people wait..

The "leakage" starts here with Johnny Nightrain's post:
http://www.ga-forum.com/showthread.php?t=45357&page=6&pp=50

Take with a grain of salt, of course..(although there are a number of them saying this, and they're "known" on GAF)

OoOoOooO, thats really nice. Like you said about Sony's being complacent, this would be the exact opposite. I personally believe Sony is going to show their fangs in this competition (as opposed to the PS2 v Dreamcast ordeal) with Sony....all and all, I think we've gotten complacent with Sony and what lengths they'll actually go to....

Anyone know if Rockstar have had a change of heart and re-signed with Sony, or if they're still planning taking GTA truly multi-platform now the limited exclusivity contract is over?

SONY would be stupid to be complacent considering both of their advantages during this generation (install base advantage and big game library) are now moot with respect to Xbox360.

Why's the PS2 install base matter? PS2 sold well before it had a huge advantage in install base; that's how they got the large install base! The install base advatange PS2 did wield was that of original PS owners who upgraded, and that advantage Sony take into the next round too.

Huh? SONY had an advantage over Xbox this generation because they entered the market sooner to establish a significant installed base long before MS entered with Xbox.

I'm really doubtful about this supposed "Megaton" or however you want to classify it by Sony. Not that Sony won't be aggressive and have some good stuff to talk about.

Who in that thread is a reliable insider saying something big is going to happen concerning Sony as far as an exclusive game taken from Microsoft?

I think he means that when XBox 1 was released PS2 already had a large install base and lots of games. IMO the PS2 launch wasn't that great, but if they launched with a new KotoR games this time around I would be all over PS3 from day one.

Like Sega did? :devilish: j/k

Isn't it Star Wars Galaxies spinoff by SOE or something? (Or, another George Lucas speech "we render the next Star Wars with PS3 blah blah")

I wouldn't thing anyone one there is reliable. Everyone seems to be just playing a guessing game of what this "big" PS3 announcement is suppose to be.

Just gotta wait and see. Only about 8 more days :)

Sony would be stupid IMO if they wouldn't have some killer AAA+ titles under wraps by now, both third as first party, for both PS2 as PS3. ;)

They need to compete with two other present and future game libraries from Nintendo and Microsoft (although the latter isn't going to support the present console too long).
SCEI really need to invest in quality and quantity right now, in order to stand their ground, but I am sure they are.

They didn't say the other was necessarily the defection of an exclusive game, but that that it wouldn't be good news for Xbox fans. The possibilities being discussed by the "regular" folks there range from Team Ninja working on PS3, RE5 on PS3 or GTA only on PS3 (permanently) all the way up to EA holding back from putting certain titles on X360 till they can put them on PS3 first (Madden being the popular focus of speculation..that certainly wouldn't be good news for X360, if it happened).

There's been a lot of hinting for a good while now from a number of different people there, but this seems to be the first time they've opened up more about it. As far as I can remember, as to the backgrounds of the three people stoking the fire in that thread:

Johnny Nighttrain claims to be an analyst and to have worked for one of the hardware manufacturers before (I believe this is Nintendo, since most of his "hinting" is Nintendo related)
Izzy claims to work in PR
JackFrost - not sure on this one

Again, take with a grain of salt..but unless they're all conspiring together to pull the wool over the eyes of the board, this seems to be "the word" going round..

Team Ninja won't leave Xbox 360, that's certain from what Itagaki commented about Xbox 360.

Some people deny the facts and act like the next gen race starts from a "clean table", that the images created for respective consoles have no effect on next gen.
Of course last gen matters as next gen enters, it's not as if everything and everybody's minds are erased as soon as xbox360 enters.

Of the KOTOR rumour.... I personally couldn't care less.
I bought KOTOR1 on PC, and found it extremely boring. Combat was boring to the extreme, character development was boring to the extreme, art was boring to the extreme... only the music was passable.
And I do like Star Wars, the films, comics, books... but never really got into what was supposed to make KOTOR so great the reviews said :?
Still, I never really liked Bioware rpg's for some unexplainable reason, or maybe it's just that i prefer the japanese type rpg's.

Actually GAF is in a ...strange mood right now, where just about everyone is an industry insider.I've seen regular posters(with no previous "credibility" whatsoever) suddenly becoming the ,know it all, insiders. It's like never-neverland or something.

There's only 2-3 people who are actually involved in the gaming industry and are posting on GAF and none of them have started any rumors. It's hillarious watching regular posters becoming "industry insiders" and hyping the kids there. In fact GAF is the place to be right now for a good laugh

All three seems havea strong image to build on next generation. It's not like nobody owns a Xbox or GCN.

There's a lot more than that, but I can't personally vouch for the 3 dropping hints here. As I said, grain of salt for now..

The funniest thread lately was a rumor started at GAF some weeks ago and than found it's way into some news articles and than finaly back into a new GAF thread to talk about that news till people realised that it's actualy one of the GAF rumors started two weeks ago.
